Our family had a lovely stay at the Bristol. The staff was very helpful. The location is hard to beat. Like the previous reviewer, we took the express train from the airport to the National Theater stop, and walked from there. It was a short walk or bus ride from the hotel to everything we did in Oslo. We even walked to the central train station with our luggage the morning we departed. The breakfast buffet was the best we had in Norway. The only issue was that our room was a little stuffy/warm. We just opened the windows for a while in the evening and it was fine. I would definitely recommend the Bristol to anyone.

You'll be very happy staying here. We took the express train from the airport and got off at the National Theater stop. It's closer than the Central Station stop. Only about a 10 minute walk to the hotel- very easy to navigate. The hotel is on a quiet street, just off the main one (Karl Johans Gate). Across the street from the hotel is a pub where we had the most amazing salmon dinner- very friendly staff there. Also, down the street from the hotel is a starbucks like coffeeshop and a small market with pastries, groceries, prepared foods. The hotel itself is lovely. Front desk staff friendly and efficient. Like their website says, Edwardian dark woods in the lobby, rooms look like they do on their website too. Nice toilietries in the room! The breakfast buffet is stupendous!!! The hotel's location is great- very easy to walk around Oslo from this point.

A Good hotel if you can get a good rate

Because the airport in Bergen was on strike we had to reroute to Oslo and we arrived two days early. We tried to find a good rate on the internet but could not, so we went to the hotel. Because it was mid week we ended up paying twice what we had already prepaid for the stay we had already booked. I will review based on our prepaid rate.
We took the SAS express bus from the airport and the driver dropped us right at the door of the Bristol. There was no bell service for our luggage but we didn't really need it anyway. Our check in was easy and we went to our room.
The weather was rather warm so I tried to turn on the fan but realized it was not working. Housekeeping came immediately and sent for a repair person who told us it was beyond what he could do and since the hotel was rather full he asked if we wanted to move or just use a portable fan. We opted to stay in the room and it was just fine with a portable fan.
The room itself was charming with a very modern bathroom. The bed was one of the best I've ever slept in. Our room was street side but it was quiet even with our window cracked at night.
Location is the best asset of The Bristol. It is one block off the main street and just a couple of blocks from the docks and the shops and dining. Just on the opposite corner from the Bristol is a cafeteria style diner that had very good Norwegian food for about half the price of dinners at the docks (still expensive in American terms).
The breakfast was fabulous with everything we could have wanted. It was included in our rate but it is expensive otherwise.
If you can get a good rate stay at The Bristol.

Unfortunately I?ve stayed there several times because the company I work for has an agreement with it. Service is outride rude. Rooms are all very different so its touch and go whether you get a room that is acceptable. I honestly don?t know how many times I?ve had to ask for a room change... This hotel including resaurant, room service, bar, etc is horribly expensive, like most things in Norway. Good thing I wasn?t paying for it myself! Best example of the experience: A couple of years ago I stayed there with my then 11yo daughter. She pleaded with me to leave because of the whole disfunctional "weirdness" of the place! Simultaneously, a group of American travelers who had recently checked in demanded to check out because they were disgruntled with everything. Management stood screaming (yes!) saying that they did not know "how things are done" in Norway! Avoid this place at all cost if you want to preserve your mental sanity.

Stayed just one night at the Bristol prior to embarking on a mini-cruise from Oslo port.
We arrived before the stated check-in time but it was a Sunday morning and our room was ready for immediate occupancy. Check in was quick and easy. I was surprised that no-one offered us help with our bags and show us to our room (even though we didn't need it, I'd expected it to be offered in a hotel of this class). The room was clean and pleasantly furnished at the back of the hotel. The view was uninspiring but it was very quiet as we were facing away from the street.
The public areas of the hotel were sumptuously furnished and very comfortable - lots of private 'nooks' for a quiet drink. We ate our evening meal in the hotel restaurant. I can recommend this in terms of quality and service - the food was suberb, beautifully presented and obviously very fresh. I have to say that it was probably one of the best restaurant meals that I have ever experienced and the service could not be faulted. However.... it comes at a price! Do not enter if you are not prepared to ignore the cost! We treated this as a special occasion and so cost was not ultimately important, but I do not think we would consider spending that amount of money if we were watching the budget. (OK if you really want to know, for two of us, 3 courses with all the trimmings & wine with each course, around ?180 - in the normal course of events I'd expect a whole weekend away for that!).
Walking to the harbour area, the station and the Royal Palace is easy from the Bristol, about 10-15 minutes to each.
Overall experience - I probably would try one of the other hotels if I go back to Oslo. The Bondenheimen, which I was going to book but was put off by reports about the area, is literally a few steps away across the road. There are a lot of road works going on around the Central Station area at the moment and I'm glad we didn't stay around there.
