This is surely the hotel to stay at in Budapest. It is situated in Buda near the Chain Bridge and the funicular to the Old Town. It is lively in the evening with restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is incredibly furnished in a modern fashion with as the name suggests.
It is worth paying for a Danube view, looking over the river to the Parliament and other buildings with the Chain Bridge to your right, all illuminated at night.

We had a warm welcome at the hotel reception when we arrived, although we were quite a late check in and there was no conseierge on duty.
We didn't have breakfast included but were offered the "All you can eat buffett" for 10 euros when we arrived which we took for the convinience more than anything. There was quite a wide selection to choose from for a cold breakfast: cereals, yogurts, cold meats, cheese, breads (no toast though), pasteries and fruit but I personally wasn't impressed with the hot selection, the scrambled eggs were quite runny and the sausages were either frankfurters or miny chorizo like sausages. There was also cooked tomatoes and boiled eggs.
Our room was lovely, we paid the extra for Danube view which had gorgeous views over the parliament buildings and chain bridge, it looked like the rooms at the back of the hotel (depending on the floor) would have a view over fishermans bastion.
The location of the hotel was ok, we walked everywhere we went and didn't bother with the trams... if you plan to do this take comfortable shoes!! We struggled to find a good evening spot from where we were without walking to far.
We got to and from the hotel using the airport shuttle, which worked out well for us. Our flight was a late one going home so we made use of the hotel's luggage room.

This hotel is really central to everthing you need. Chain Bridge for walking, Metro, Trams, Buses 5 minutes away. 10 mins walk to Fishermans Bastion & Castle although lots of steps for fitter people, funicular 5-6 mins walk if not. Staff are polite food is very nice, we were given a free upgrade to Parliament view as our arranged taxi did not turn up. Rooms very comfortable & very clean. We were on main road second floor but never heard any traffic or other guests. Breakfast is a bit expensive but convenient as earliest cafe opens at 9.0am (Angelikas). Do visit the House of Terror Museum not well advertised but on Andressy Street about 2 thirds up towards Heroes Square. Fasinating history of WW2 and the German occupation & Russian communism.
Try the Marvelosa cafe just past funicular on main Danube road, olde world intimate cafe quirky interior & good food. Opens for breakfast 8.30am. Do take passport or ID as OAP get free local transport and Europians get into Parliament free. Lots of museums are half price for over 60's. Watch out for bikes, really whizz past you, and taxis are a bit fast too.

I have stayed at the art'otel for a 3 nights stay at the beginning of may 2008, for a weekend with friends...
the location of the hotel is on the buda side, near the castle and st mathias' church, but a bit away from the night life areas; as we checked in in the evneing, we decided to try the bar of the hotel for a couple of drinks...it was not possible to have even a small sandwich, the bar staff didnt speak good english and overall we found the bar expensive, for what we had and for the service offered..
As far as the rooms, the one i stayed in was big, overlooking the courtyard,(my friends had one room with the river view, but it was definetely smaller). The tv in the room had mostly german channels, the aircon was noisy and on one blanket we found some stains and we had it changed..on the plus side, the bed was very very comfortable. The bathroom was nice but the toiletries provided too poor, just one little shampoo bottle and a shower cap.
We tried the sauna on floor -1, it was functioning very well, but a relaxing area is missing for when you get out.
The reception and housekeeping staff were very friendly and efficient, and all spoke good english, the only remark i have to make is regarding the airport shuffle service..we wanted to use the official airport shuttle service (the best way to get from and to the airport), but instead we were ripped off as they called an "indipendent" driver...
Overall, if i had to go to Budapest again, i would try a different hotel

Huge Disappointment

We arrived on June 26 with approximately 45 other travelers on the Collette Imperial Cities Tour. Up to now the hotels were one of the few areas where Collette did not disappoint us. Their tour was mediocre at best but that is for another web site. After a tiring day of touring the first sign of a problem at the Art'otel was that all of our bags were still in the lobby after being dropped off nearly five hours earlier. Being good troopers most of us dragged our bags to our rooms using the very slow elevators. Tired and hot( record high temperatures in Budapest) we entered our HOT room. Voila, no air conditioning! A fast call to the front desk provided the standard "we will look into it, but it takes time for the room to cool down". The next problem was our inability to lock the safe. Next call to the desk; next response," I will personally be right up." Ok, let us open the large window facing the river for some air, which we did. Only problem was the window was not fully attached to its hinges so I had to grab it from dangling away from its frame. A quick check of the AC which now had been on for awhile reinforced our worst fear, our room did not have functioning AC. We moved down to the lobby for the night tour but first put a band aid touching the door and frame just to see if when we returned the band aid had been moved indicating whether hotel staff actually came up to our room to fix anything. In the lobby we learned that no one had air conditioning! So the "we will look into it...." response was essentially a preconceived falsehood to placate the complainers. Upon returning from the night tour we entered a very hot hotel which obviously still had no AC and apparently had not had air conditioning for days. Fortunately Collette was able to book us into the Hilton for two of our three nights in Budapest so we went to our rooms to retrieve the baggage but first noticed that the band aid barrier was not broken so the "I will personally be right up" assurance of a few hours prior was another-tell them anything but do nothing-management response. And by the way, the art was not so terrific either. Go to the Hilton Castle District! Top notch!
