We stayed at the Prinz Eugen for 1 night in early June 2008. As other reviews have said, the hotel is easy to find as it's obliquely opposite the sudbahnhof (south train station). The city centre is relatively close but I don't know what sort of walk it is as a friend was driving us around. I do know that a taxi to the cathedral could cost about 10 euros depending on traffic. That's because they sometimes have to take a rouundabout route. The area the hotel is in is also not the greatest. Not really much to see.
The outside of the hotel isn't much to look at as it's sort of dingy looking. Once you step inside you realise you're in a quality hotel. The room we stayed in wasn't huge but it was comfortable for the time we spent there. For me, the main selling point of the hotel was its service. You see, we had problems with our bags not arriving with us from Germany. Austrian Airlines has several flights a day so we were told they'd be on one of these later flights. We 1st got to the hotel about 2p and our bags hadn't reached by 6p, 9p or even 1a. Each time though the hotel staff were kind enough to call the airline and follow up for us. When the bags did arrive (at 6:30a!) we got a call from the front desk to say so. My only quibble was that 10 mins later someone came up with the bags. To be honest I was really trying to get some sleep so wasn't too happy about being woken up twice. But there was no way they would know that.
Overall I would recommend this hotel. Easy links from the airport and into the city centre and the service is good.

The Hotel is up the block from the train station and not near any tourist destinations. A cab ride is necessary to anywhere. No Internet access in the rooms ! One computer in the lobby. If you want internet wireless access the hotel charges you $16.00US per day and you have to go to the 2nd floor to gain the wireless access.
VERY inconvenient. The hotel website is misleading and the pictures look better on the site, than in reality.
The hotel had many flyer's for call girl's, prostitutes and strip clubs in the racks of flyer's for tourist s in the lobby.
The room I had was dirty upon arrival... the phone had not been wiped clean and there was food left from the prior guest in the refrigerator. The bedding was thin sheets and flat pillows.
Air conditioning was uneven and not very good.
This hotel was horrible!

Really nice hotel right across the street from the train station making it handy coming in from the Airport or by Train. The hotel room itself was nice and quiet even though on a busy street. Twin bed set up was unique with a little half wall seperating the beds which made it nice and private. Very clean and well cared for. Free internet access in the lobby and a fantastic breakfast included in the cost (best breakfast of the whole trip). A bit of a walk to the core of the city but nothing unmanageable and close to the Belvedere with wonderful Art exhibits.
All in all a great place to stay - I would go back!

I stayed here in June 2008 after getting in from a conference in Budapest. I needed a handy location and this hotel is ideally placed. Travel into the city centre was easy. It's actually walkable if you have the time, down along Prinz Eugen Strasse next to Belvedere Palace and along then into the city centre. It'll take you about half an hour. A D tram stop is also ideally placed just alongside Sudbahnhof, across the street and this takes you straight into the city centre as well. I found an U-bahn (underground) stop just round the corner as well, turning right when exiting the hotel, in Sudtiroller Platz, which is just 2 stops on the U1 line straight into Stephansplatz. There isn't much around the hotel itself, and the area can be a bit dodgy at night with an adult bar along the street to the right of the hotel. Forget about eating around here, the city centre is so reachable.
The hotel itself was fine. The doors are funny, in the sense that they open outwards, rather than inwards into the room. When leaving your room, make sure you don't swing the door out and clobber some one in the face on the hotel corridor! The carpet in the room didn't look vacuumed but besides that, the room was clean enough. Our room faced the Sudbahnhof and the balcony overlooked a busy street but we didn't spend too much time there anyway, there's too much to see in Vienna!
The breakfast was very very good. There was plenty of choice and tables a plenty.
Travel to the airport was so so handy. We just crossed the street to Sudbahnhof and took a frequent airport bus straight to the airport. It cost Euro6 one way and takes about haif an hour. Overall, would recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Prinz Eugen for 6 days around Xmas 2007. The area isn't that fancy but it's close to metro, tram and the Sudbahnhof.
You can even walk to the center in about 30-40 min if you feel like it.
The spacious and clean rooms overlooked a busy road but the soundproof glasses worked well.
Breakfast was ok and the staff was very helpful.
It might not be the best hotel you've ever stayed in but at 60e/night for the double room I paid, it's much more than ok.
