Guest name: The England Family, East Anglia
Guest type: Young single
stayed in May 2007
We reported about this hotel on an earlier visit in 2006, and stayed here again recently. I have to admit that the hotel seems to have deteriorated slightly in some respects this time:
What was good:
Breakfasts continue to be very good indeed
Reception staff are friendly and helpful, many speak English (and there was even one English receptionist)
Location: great for shopping, university, cathedral, restaurants, etc.
Cleaning of rooms: good and useful things like shaving kits were provided
What was not so good:
Air conditioning: it didn't work - it actually made the room hotter. The room overlooked a lightwell and so even with the window open it was incredibly difficult to cool the room (and remember this is April, and the weather was not *that* hot, just wait for July/August!). The curtains were so close to the bed that it was impossible to open the window wide in order to get a good breeze in the room as the pressure of the curtains, squeezed between the bed and the window, pushed it closed again.
Mini-bar: didn't work - so drinks inside it were very warm
Size: room was very small, and although this doesn't necessarily need to be a problem, we were there for 5 nights....
TV remote control: batteries had run out and the battery cover was loose - the reception staff happily replaced the batteries though.
Bathroom was rather cramped, and the shower was a bit old fashioned. It was reasonably powerful but hard to control its direction without holding it with one hand
Storage space in wardrobe limited
I suspect we just had a duff room on this occasion perhaps - there was seemingly a lot of conference guests staying at the hotel for part of the time we were there and a wedding reception on one night too, so perhaps they were busier than normal. I think if I had to choose again between this place, the Siete Coronas or the Huertanica, I'd pay a little (but not much) more to stay in the Siete Coronas where (at least) the room is *much* more spacious. There are a number of other new hotels being set up in Murcia but they are less central....I have to say, even though everyone at the Arco de San Juan were very friendly, I was somewhat disappointed by my stay this time. I hope it was just a momentary blip.
