Friendly but noisy
Guest name: Writerwriter, London
We arrived in Reims late and many places were full. We were glad to end up here with a friendly and helpful receptionist. We viewed both the regular rooms and the refurbished ones. No comparison! Only a few euros difference in the price, but the refurbished ones were pretty nice, the regular ones seemed pretty dreary. We had a large, pleasant and sunny room which was very clean and nicely furnished. In early evening it was lovely to look over the bustling square outside with its trees and cafes. The breakfast was good by French standards (usually you only get a bit of bread and jam). Staff were very friendly. Location was extremely convenient. The minuses were that the square can be noisy into the small hours (the restaurants etc close at 1 am). We closed the windows which were double glazed and kept out most of the noise, but this could be a problem in hot weather, of course. The worst thing was the brilliant light which glared outside and right into the room till 1 am. It came from big lamps which illuminated the front of the building. We pulled the curtains but if you find it hard to sleep when it's light, this would be a serious disadvantage. This would have put me off spending a second night in that room, as I do get bothered by light. Otherwise, the beds were comfortable and we were glad to get up and be right in the middle of the action the next day.
definitely seen better days

yes, the little square {Place d'Erlon) is picturesque and there are tons of restaurants nearby.
Unfortunately, that means the noise is unbearable ALL NIGHT. There were a group of revelers right under my room who were the usual boisterous drunks all night, then one of them got violently ill after which he got a huge round of applause from his friends!
The condition of the property can best be described as "run-down". It was a posh place back in the 1950s but has done little or nothing to keep up ever since. Not actually dirty, but tacky decoration, griminess in the corners, bathroom facilities that were designed for much shorter people, etc.
One huge word of caution if you are driving: the address is listed in hotel correspondence several different ways (Place Drouel, Boulevard Foch, etc.). NONE of those have any correlation to the actual street signs and landmarks you need to find the hotel. If you are driving, get off at Sortie 23 from the A4 and go towards the Gare (train station) and the Jardin Botanical. Then look for signs for Place d'Erlon on your right. If you see the train station on your left you've gone too far.
DO NOT look for Place Drouel (the full name is Drouel d'Erlon, but is shown on all the street signs as d'Erlon) and DO NOT look for Boulevard Foch (which is what the main street becomes AFTER you pass the square, and is one-way headed towards the outskirts of town). You will actually be on Boulevard General Leclerc.
Reims is a classic "vintage" European city, so it's not driver-friendly. Good luck to you if you get lost, which is very easy to do.
Parking is in an underground garage in the d'Erlon square. There is a complicated process to get your ticket validated, then you have to buy a discounted ticket from the front desk, then you feed the original ticket and the voucher into an automated machine and insert Euros.
Overall, avoid this hotel unless you simple cannot afford anything better.

Stayed in Hotel du Nord towards the end of
February, the entire hotel smelled of smoke as there had been a fire nearby. The rooms were extremely tatty and the breakfast terrible! On the plus side, the rooms were very warm and the bathroom fine . However, we would not stay there again!

Juste convenable !

Alors, à mon avis, allez autre part.
