Colonial style hotel centrally located with nice and clean room incl all usual amenities - our room had a balcony as well. The staff was very friendly and forthcoming. The breakfast buffet was rather average. Anyone who likes just a croissant and coffee might be better of in one of the various coffee shops along the street. However, the breakfast is served at the restaurant on the roof top and the view is worth going up there. Overall, the hotel was good value for money and I would definitely stay there again.

This hotel has the most beautiful lobby, the lunches served in the restaurant just off the lobby are delicious and reasonably priced. The river-view colonial room was very clean but rather small, although space was misused by having a large useless anteroom occupied by a wardrobe and coatstand,and a large bathroom. A coffee maker is provided.The pool view rooms were identical but facing the pool rather than the river and as they were cheaper and much quieter would have been better value. The pool is located within a very pretty leafy courtyard. The hotel is actually separated from the river by an extremely busy main road bearing heavy duty traffic, so 'river -view' is something of a misnomer. The location is handy for shops and other western style hotels, also some quite stylish and expensive restaurants. The staff are quite helpful and not as hostile as some Vietnamese can be. For some reason which escapes me the roof-top restaurant which has a fairly basic decor is much more expensive than the nicer one downstairs.

There are many choices in HCMC... but the Majestic has all that you need, great location, great rooms, and view of the River. We booked a package that includes breakfast and one dinner/lunch, arrival pick-up, welcome drinks, free WiFi. That still makes it about 40% cheaper than the Park Hyatt, which has like a polished wannabe colonial exterior. Anyway, we had a very pleasant stay at the Majestic, and would recommend to everybody.

If you like room to move, this colonial hotel has generous sized rooms and bathrooms. The renovation has tried to stay true to its original form and for most part, pulls off the Colonial grandeur well ( a notable exception is the pale blue cloud mural destroying the front lobby). Its an old hotel and looks a little tired (but that is part of its charm). The electric wiring is very precarious, but the maintenance team were very prompt with all repairs. The plumbing in the bathroom made it difficult to control the water temperature when showering - but they do have large bath tubs with complimentary bathsalts to soak away the city grime. The breakfast was the biggest disappointment. I can never understand why hotels in cities with great bakeries offer stale bread and pastries. The hot breakfast consists mainly of leftovers from the restaurant's dinner buffet....but there is always the egg station. Stay here if you would like a change from the international chain hotels. The service is efficient, the locations is great (we had a room on the 4th floor and were not bothered by the traffic noise) - just don't expect everything to be perfect!
