We stayed in this Hotel for one night in late April.
The Hotel is located in a plain field near the ring road No 1 some klm after Hella.. All the rooms have a beautiful view on a river. Now this hotel claims to be 4 stars, but I don’t think that it deserves it. The quality of the construction is rather basic (you can hear everything from next rooms or the hallway), the decoration and especially the furniture (in the rooms, restaurant and bar) mediocre, the bed mattresses bad. The owner tries hard to improve the image and create a relaxing atmosphere, with nice fresh flowers, candles, amenities like bath robe, magazines etc. But if you have stayed in Budir Hotel before you have the experience of authentic elegant decoration with original character, style and class.
We had also dinner in Ranga and we found the food to be pretentious and overpriced.
The breakfast was ok The usual stuff but no eggs, nor salmon
No complaint about the stuff which was always very helpful and friendly.
Overall I prefer the 2 or 3 stars in the region that offer more basic but good value services and save the money (we stayed at hotel Laki as well at half the price, excellent stay) or spend the Money for staying in Budir.

Lovely hotel, comfortable rooms. Large bathroom. Exit to outiside where you have access to 2 jacuzzi's. Staff very accomodating to the children who were gobsmacked when we ordered room service and it was brought in by 3 people.
Our only complaint was that breakfast choice was rather minimal for a 4* hotel. The restaurant meals were also very expensive.
However, throughout our travels we came to discover that this is the situation all over iceland. Eating out is extrememly expensive.

My wife had an award presentation at this hotel after winning a 4 day trip through work. What a fantastic place. We ended up in the hot tub after the presentation with some of my wifes workmates - we were in there from around 11 pm till 5.00 am in the snow, having beers bought out by the A* waiters, watching the northern lights - it seemed like we were out for about 5 minutes only!
The location, food, drink, and staff are all absolutly top notch and we both cant recommend this hotel enough. Cant comment on the value though as was a jolly!!!
Say hello to the polar bear in the lobby.

Spent a week in Iceland to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary which was stunning with generally excellent hospitality and service. Hotel Ranga was the exception, we had been advised by our travel agent that building work would be underway between 0800 and 1800 but assured this should not afffect our hotel experience. With an inexhaustable supply of awe inspiring sight seeing to occupy us we were not too concerned.
Our indifferent greeting on arrival was offset by the prospect of a revitalising spell in the hot tub outside our room. Having psyched ourselves up for this, we remained undeterred when emerging from our room at 1750 to the continuing hammering noise of the builders roofing part of the new extension and directly overlooking our hot tub area. Unfortunately our belief that they would finish at 1800 was wrong and they were still working until after 1830. We had left the tub anyway since the water temperature was lukewarm (a problem with hot water supply we were advised). We went for our evening meal ready for some hearty sustenance. The menu sounded appealing, although somewhat pricey even by icelandic standards. The food ,when it came, was delicious however everyone was experiencing extended delays between ordering and receiving their meals which the waiting staff would only put dowm to problems in the kitchen. The staff apologised but gave an air of resigned helplessness to the situation. The manager had made a brief appearance earlier in the evening to find a toothpick which he then proceeded to use in full view of the assembled diners before leaving to deal with other problems. The following morning we were woken at 0700 by the wokman returning to their noisy labours, Breakfast was good in range and content. The bonus of this early start was that we extended our days activity and stayed away from the hotel for as long as possible. In the evening we discovered a delightful coastal seafood restaurant with friendly and engaging staff and excellent food delivered in a timely manner. The following morning breakfast had fallen from grace with slow replenishment of items, less range than the day before and hot water no longer available in thermos containers but in simple metal pots that could not retain the heat efficiently. Our descrption of our disappointment to the hotel was met with a bland apology blaming the disruptive nature of the works which would make the hotel a more efficient place for the future.
I believe this summed up the whole hotel ethos in that its focus was efficiency rather than the customer experience. Thereby when problems occur, as can happen to anyone, attention is placed on the wrong things. No amount of building improvement could correct this sort of shortcoming in management approach.
