My husband and I emmigrated to UAE from UK and his company put us up in this hotel, I therefore have no idea of the cost to stay.
What an awful introduction to Abu Dhabi.
The rooms are tired and the bathroom shabby. The whole hotel smells of smoke (even in the non smoking rooms).
The airconditioning is noisy and keeps you awake at night.
The staff are rude and unhelpful.
This is a 2* hotel at best.
I would not advise booking this hotel at all.

the hotel was booked and paid by the company so I can't tell about the price.
good: room are vast and very clean, as the bathroom. the staff is helpful.
bad:the swimming pool is rather a puddle, but the sport room is correct and clean. the bar is a little sinister after 1PM,
overall: rather call it a 3.5 star hotel. the block is very nice, very very very safe even at night, with the corniche within walking distance, some philippin and indian 2 euros restaurants at your door and the hilton within 1e in taxi....
will come back with my wife and my baby !

I wanted a cheap overnight stay on my journey to Johannesburg with Ethihad airways. In spite of two rather poor reviews, I decided to give the Sands a try. The price from Asiarooms.com was £37 and I was travelling alone. The room was magnificent - two very comfortable double beds to choose from and lots of space. The ensuite was fine - not as pristine as some 5 star accommodation I've stayed in - but it ticked all the right boxes. The receptionist was very helpful. It was Ramadan when I was there and the hotel had a traditional tent and trappings in the reception area, which was of a pretty good standard. Lifts were quite grandiose too, and there was comfortable seating in the reception area - all marble, mirrors and gold as usual in the UAE. I didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on the food. There is a shopping mall with a food supermarket and coffee shop (the latter closed during Ramadan in the day) within walking distance of the hotel but it is not very close to other major attractions. But for a one night stay it was more than fine.
If you are travelling as cheaply as possible, take the regular (???) bus not the airport transfer coach. You may have to wait - there is no timetable - but it is supposed to run about every half hour I think. It costs 3 dirhams!! one way (less than 50p). You can catch a cab from the central bus station to the hotel for about 5 dirhams!! The bus is airconditioned and is used by workers and staff at the airport. A very helpful uniformed 'commissionaire' type of guy at the airport saw me onto the bus - the stop is not obvious...
catching the bus back to the airport is a bit hit and miss too - you have to look carefully for the bus at the station but I'd left in plenty of time. Obviously one of Abu Dhabi's best kept secrets! Everyone I asked for information or directions was very helpful - I am a retired but adventurous female and always felt perfectly safe in the UAE.

Schreckliches Hotel - Abzocke
