Rip off Rome
Guest name: TigersFan2008, Leicester
The Amalfi hotel is small in a reasonable position .Our room was small ,the bathroom was small which meant it was difficult to relax & spread out.
The breakfast was Ok with yogurt, tin fruit, rolls & sweet croisants. The breakfast room was small seating 14 guests.
The bedrom had a minibar very reasonable prices compared to Rome generally.
The restaurants near the hotel were expensive & quality was poor.
The reception at the Amalfi was limited.
Our room was on the back overlooking a courtyard & at least it was quiet.
There is a modern flat screen Tv but only showed CNN news & no other English channels.
Nice hotel, but watch out!!

The hotel was nice although the room was very small. The problem was, there were ants in our room that bit our daughter every night, even after spraying. Just a word of CAUTION, no matter how nice you think the hotel and the staff are, - DON"T leave anything of value in your room, even while going downstairs for 30 minutes for breakfast. Someone may be watching for you to go and go into your room and steal your credit card, id card and ATM card. It happened to us.

This is an interesting place. It is run by an Italian gentleman who chain smokes a few packs a day. I only know this because every time I passed through the lobby to enter or exit the hotel, he was standing in the hotel's entryway smoking.
To get to your room, you either have to take a somewhat windy staircase or cram yourself into the elevator, which will only fit one person and one piece of luggage if you are lucky.
Once in your room, you'll notice it has all the basics. Nothing too nice, but nothing too bad. The room seemed clean and had a small flat screen television. However, the pillows were as hard as a rock. I have never slept on a pillow quite like these. They probably cost about 1 Euro each to buy - and for that price, the hotel overpaid.
The bathroom is fine. The toilet was incredibly hard to get to. There was less then 1 foot of space between it and the shower door (so good luck!) The bed was fine (minus the pillows of course) and the room had a mini bar.
My boyfriend and I tried to sleep in, but the maids knocked on our door early in the morning the first night we slept there. They hotel didn't offer a do not disturb sign so we made our own.
My boyfriend also stayed out past midnight a few nights we were there. The only problem with this is that the front door of the hotel was locked each time and we couldn't get in. We had to pound on the door for what seemed like at least 2 minutes before the chain smoking manager showed up to let us in (he had obviously been sleeping on the lobby sofa).
Also, the hotel did not have internet. This proved to be a big disadvantage for us. During our stay, we priced other hotels in the area and you can get a room for the same price at those hotels (and they have internet). So my advice would be to stay elsewhere.
Location is good - close to the Termini train station. It is walkable from the train station to the hotel. From the train station, you can catch the subway to the Spanish Steps or the Vatican. When we first arrived, we took a cab from the train station to the hotel because we had luggage. Be careful if you do this - the cab driver overcharged us by at least 10 Euro (beware!)
You can also walk from the hotel to the subway station that is south of the hotel (the opposite direction of the train station). From there, you can go one stop to Ancient Rome (the Coliseum).

My girlfriend and I wanted to stay in rome for 3 to 4 days but we didn't want to pay hundreds of pounds on a 4 or 5 star hotel so we decided to go for a 2 to 3 star and use it just as a base and somewhere to sleep. The room was small but we didn't need a big room and it was clean. The only problems encountered were some mosquitos and the air-con didn't work. The staff were v friendly and helpful. The location was ideal (inbetween the termini and the Coloseum) for the price we paid. We got the train from the airport and then walked from the termini to the hotel as it wasn't that far away and saved a lot of money. We walked to all the tourist sites from our hotel apart from the Vatican which we rode a bus to. If you want cheap digs in a great location for sightseeing then this is definately the hotel for you.

I reserved this hotel online and did read the reviews before I decided on this one. I have requested for a quiet room and two days before I left to Rome, I called them just to make sure they were
able to give me a quiet room. The person who answered the phone told me they have reserved us a room on the 4th floor. But when we arrived they put us on the first floor and told us all the room were full.
However, the person who greeted us was cold and rude, he looked at us like take it or not. It was almost 9 in the evening and we had to take it even though with his bad attitude. The next day it was another
man working in the front, this time i politely asked him to refer us a restaurant. Right away he took out a card and wrote his name at the back and told us to go there and make sure to show this card to them. So we thought, either we will get a discount from that or he got some kind of incentive by referring people to eat there. Anyway,
we did went there, but did not even bother to step in. For there were only one table there and we saw two waiters were sitting in one of the table seems like they were chatting. It's just not feel right to go in. The third night we were there, i need to make a phone call. The phone in my room was not working, so I went down to ask them for assistance, again the one in the lobby was not working as well. When I report this to the man in the reception, he didn't believe me and then try dialed it himself, but also could not make any outside call. He didn't say anything but then tell me I should go look for another phone. I was so disappointed with them that I couldn't wait to get out of this place. The only person that gave us a big smile every moring was the lady who works in the restaurant, but she could not say a single word of English. My advice is, don't stay here.
