Absolutely superb! Warm and friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. The restaurants were great. Try the green curry chicken, I had it twice during my stay.

I stayed at the Hotel One on a recent business trip to Taichung. A colleague who travels to Taiwan regularly had tried quite a few of the hotels in the city and likes this one the best.
The hotel is located on the top floors of a tall building and so has great views. I managed to get a corner room. It was spacious, very modern and high tech. The bed was large and comfortable and the work desk was also large, with an ergonomic chair and was well-stocked with office supplies and a printer.
The bathroom was very modern also, with a separate small flat screen television and a nice shower. A fruit bowl was provided.
The staff were very professional and friendly and were eager to please. We got a good room rate via the internet, so check there to book a room.
We did not eat at the hotel, but walked down from the hotel about 3 minutes to a local Taiwanese restaurant on the first corner. The food was very good and fairly inexpensive. We also skipped the breakfast, since it was a bit steep, and just stopped at a 7-11, which are on every other corner in Taiwan, for a quick bite.
The exercise room was well equipped and also had good views.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if looking for a modern ambiance.

Stayed in the hotel for one night. This is by far the best place to stay in Taichung. Previously stayed at the Landis (part of the same group) but the services and facilities are basic.
Great views of the city on top of one of the tallest buildings in the city. Hip and cool decor, with widescreen TV, DVD player, in-room printer, stereo speakers...etc. Nice LCD TV in the bathroom. Rainshower + bathtub next to the window so you can get a view (a la Ritz Singapore).
Free wireless internet throughout the hotel, which is great.

The room was very comfortable and incredibly clean with great views.
The best part about staying there was the super friendly service and attentive staff. Most of them had a fair level of spoken English.
Agreed that the biggest drawback was the lack of pool and spa. Nevertheless, we highly recommend it as a base in Taichung.

Taichung's newest and tallest hotel is a blatant W-Hotel/Jia Hong Kong rip-off, right down to the pseudo-hip background music. This is actually a good thing, considering that Taichung's other leading hotels are really showing their age, or have let their standards lapse so much they have been booted from major international franchise affiliations. The hotel is located at the top of a glistening new office tower. It is managed by the Landis Group, an up and coming group of luxury hotels located in China and Taiwan.
Check-in seems to be done half on the first floor, and half in the room. Personally, I don't like the check-in process being done in my room.
Nice touches in the room include electronic curtains, oversized bathrooms with rainforest showers and a large, flat screen monitor. Laptops can be connected to the monitor. Needless to say, all rooms have views of the city and so do many bath tubs. The hotel also provides cellphones for guests to take with them in case someone calls their room, but I did not use this service.
Some people might be put off and confused by the remotes and docking station and all of their functions. Internet is free, but I could not detect any wireless and instead used a cable. They weren't thinking about infrared mice when they decided to use a glass work table.
The restaurant is a bit spotty. The dinner menu is excellent. Most dishes have Thai and Indian influences and the food was great. The service, however, wasn't. The staff was friendly, but they seemed really nervous and my partner was served a good 30 minutes before my food came out.
Room service ordered for lunch earlier in the day seemed a little soggy. The breakfast brunch is OK, but expect the usual Taiwanese buffet scene of tons of kids and line chaos.
The building doesn't seem like it was explicitly designed with a hotel in mind, and therefore the exercise room is small and there is no spa or pool, probably this hotel's biggest drawbacks.
The other complaint is the awkward English on their web site. Certainly this hotel, which charges at least USD 200 a night, could have paid one of the thousands of native-speaking, foreign English teachers in Taiwan a couple hundred bucks to clean up the bad English on their site. The site also states, "For any request, just push “8” and our service coordinator will provide the necessary assistance. 'Whenever and whatever our guests need..." Interestingly enough, there's a trendy U.S. hotel chain that has a Whatever/Whenever service.
Other than that, this is a good place to stay in Taichung.
