My husband and parents arrived back in Melbourne last night, after 6 nights in Koh Samui and 5 nights in Bangkok (at the Dusit). This is my second visit to the Dusit (my husband and I were their a year ago) and we came back, because we had a fantastic expereince last time....
And we had another FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE.
We booked 2 suites (which are sensational - very large and decadent) and we were allowed access to the Dusit Club for pre dinnner drinks and canapes. And for an extra $30 or so Australian Dollars per night, I would highly recommend this type of upgrade.
The Thai Restaurant is brilliant (we ate their twice and the service is impeccable). The location is amazing (only a minute to the sky train - so we shop, shop, shopped!) And only a very short cab ride to the Oriental (for an indulgent night out) and the Banyan Tree (for an amazing drink on the roof top bar). I find this hotel location to be perfect. Its a more quiet area (if there is such a thing in Bangkok!!!), compared to the many other hotels on Sukhmumvit Road (I hope I spelt it right!)
Even with a Lions Club Mega Conference starting at the hotel, we never felt 'crowded' in this hotel.
The breakfast is amazing (so much to choose from) and when we spent an afternoon at the pool, the service was impeccable.
An absolutely fantastic experience all round.....

Very nice Hotel, extremly well situated and good value for money,
but it has lost some of its flair.
We stayed at a deluxe room with views to the tiny but cosy swimming pool.
Very well located next to the skytrain and underground.
When beeing in bangkok try to avoid the street level in the Sukumvith area as it is crowded and the street is full of loose paviment and wholes.
The skywalks are are excellent alternative and good for your heath due they are mainly accesible by stairs,..
The room hast a 20 inches lcd tv which is to small, the direction of the hotel should review this detail and put a little bit larger screens in the room.
Service at the restaurants is ok but after 4 days the service should already know what the clients preferences.
The Spa offers average massage staff, very friendly but
I have had better massages in less expensive Spa's in Bangkok.
Food has very good quality but as with the Spa's you can find better value for your money eating elsewhere.. Hyat Htl, For seasons spice market restaurant.

I'd like to know the identity of Food and Beverage Officer so I can poach him/her back to Australia. Quality staff who are genuinely eager to please. In room fridge was a little old and lacked the ability to keep temperature at 3 degrees Celsius. Decor on common areas is of 5 star standard. I stayed in a Dusit Club Room which was 4 star standard. It has all the makings of one of the best hotels in Thailand, just needs some minor tweaking in some not so critical areas. Overall experience was very good, not exceptional, enough to keep me coming back.
