I have just returned from celebrating my daughter's (and new son-in-law's) wedding which was held at Smiths at Gretna Green. They chose the hotel for their wedding as it was about halfway between home in the West Highlands of Scotland and guests in the south of England.
The choice was perfect, everything from the early planning stages by Smiths' wedding bureau until the day itself was handled with efficiency, friendliness and courtesy.
I stayed in Ash Suite as I wanted to spend time with my far-flung family and friends and it was just perfect. We even managed to sip champagne on the balcony between showers!
The food was fantastic, especially the wedding breakfast and the chocolate fountain which appeared halfway through the evening.
Service was good and everyone had a good time and those staying at the hotel had nothing but praise for it.
The restaurant food was delicious and worth every penny.
I recommend Smiths at Gretna Green for every kind of occasion - they do know how to put on a good party!

We stayed at Smiths for 5 days while in Gretna to get married. Everything about the stay was second to none, from nicely sized rooms to really excellent food and helpful staff. If you are going to Gretna to get married, or for any other reason, dont even think about staying anywhere else!

Stayed here for 2 days midweek with our friends that got married in Gretna. Hotel is first rate all of the staff very attentive but not overbearing, they are clearly geared up for the wedding parties. We had a family room with 2 bunk beds which are situated just inside the door so are slightly seperate from the main part of the room, each bunk bed had their own tv as well. Food and service excellent especially the full buffet breakfast. The Hotel has its own beauty salon and is recommended for facials and having hair done for your big day. Hotel is about 80 metres from the Old Blacksmiths Shop where our friends were married. There is an outlet shopping village just as you come off the M6 on the way to the hotel if you have shopping in mind or forget your wedding suit, they are very child friendly so dont worry about taking children with you. Overall an excellent stay to remember

I stayed in a deluxe double room for one night while on business in Gretna and it was truly one of the most comfortable stays I had in any hotel. The reason I'm giving it four not five stars is down to the fact that the location next to the Motorway isn't particularly scenic (when compared with other hotels in Scotland, where you have views across lochs, glens and other areas of outstanding natural beauty). To be fair though none of the public rooms overlooked the Motorway and I couldn't hear it from my room.
**Rooms**
The room was very cosy, had a fire place in it with two arm chairs (I lounged in them with a cup of tea before dinner - marvellous!). There's a flat screen tele mounted to the wall and you can watch TV from either the chairs or the bed. The layout was just very well thought out and the atmosphere in the room was quite modern, but calming with lots of browns and earthy tones.
The bed was very comfortable, and the shower in the morning great (quite powerful and easy to use!). They had "Arran Aromatics" toiletries which was a nice touch.
**Food**
I had dinner and breakfast in the hotel and both were fab. The portion sizes at dinner were maybe a little on the small side (and I'm not a big eater so that's saying something!). Breakfast was good with a good selection of foods, served buffet style.
**Old Blacksmith Shop**
I went across the road to the Smithy cum visitor attraction and while I know that it's not everybody's cuppa I found the atmosphere to be very romantic. I met a couple who got just married there and it's easy to see the attraction of "eloping" to a place like Gretna with all the history and magic associated with it. Before I visited I never really got it.
I think it's definitely worth a visit and I would return and visit again.
