The weekend of the fourth, I entertained a small gathering of friends and business associates. I chose The Glenn because I'd heard great reviews and wanted something different as opposed to the ordinary 4-5 star hotel accommodation's. "The Glenn" was a winner and just what downtown Atlanta needs. A chic boutique hotel experience, small intimate and class-A customer service. The staff was lovely. For people who travel often internationally & local, this hotel compares with & holds it's own. I will recommend the place as often as possible.Cheerios & hat's off to the management.
The Maxim Prime: I will, however, suggest that travelers dine elsewhere as the dishes I ordered were less than appetizing. Clams(bread crumbs in shells), oysters($15 - I received these in a plastic "tupperware" type container, much like the packaging found with oysters you purchase in a grocery store, sushi & rolls (seemed to have been prepared by really tired chefs...),kobe burger (over cooked),fried crawfish(decent, at best). Dig this, the Maxim room service menu is quite limited, so if you want to get the full menu, you must go get the menu yourself, order it @ bar &bring it up yourself.Weird.The Glenn,Wow. Maxim Prime Restaurant,uughh...

I stayed at the Glenn Hotel for a spontaneous weekend getaway in March 2008. When it comes to hotels, the most important aspect for me (aside from stellar service and pleasant staff) is the atmosphere and style/design of the hotel, especially the rooms. When I travel for pleasure, I try to avoid the same run of the mill hotel rooms. That being said, I really appreciated the cool, non-traditional rooms offered at the Glenn Hotel. The glass shower was a wonderful addition to the already stylish room. The room was neat and clean as well. The staff were very helpful when we needed menus for local restaurants and were trying to decide what to eat. All in all, my only regret is that it was a brief stay.
Overall, enjoyed our stay...

Nice hotel.. booked on Orbitz at a very reasonable rate. The staff was friendly, the room was small, but clean. Loved the lighting in the room and the "peek a boo" shower. Stayed one night, on a Monday.. no problem with street noise, but the walls do seem quite thin as we could hear people in hallway quite clearly in our room. Bed and bed coverings were exceptionally comfortable. // Only real complaints... problem with the elevator so we had to use service elevator. Not a huge deal to me. Also, the homeless around the outside of the hotel is a problem. Unfortunately, this is the same problem my husband and I have encountered at several different hotels on our many visits to downtown Atlanta. We walked from the Marta station at Underground to the hotel at midnight on a Monday night and were literally scared to death. // Overall, our stay was very nice, and we will definitely return to the Glenn.

My wife and I had a Wednesday night layover in Atlanta on our way to the Caribbean, and rather than stay at an airport hotel, we decided to spend the night at the Glenn. Big mistake. We chose the Glenn largely because it is included among the "Small Luxury Hotels of the World," a group of hotels with which we have had some success in the past. We were also taken in by the Glenn's website, which depicts the hotel as a model of urban sophistication.
On the positive side, the Glenn's staff was polite enough and the hotel is conveniently located near a Marta station that takes you to and from the airport.
As for the many negatives, the worst offense by far was the noise, which made it impossible to get a good night's sleep. We were on the 8th floor, which is still a few floors down from the roof, and yet the pulsing music and crowd noises from the rooftop bar penetrated all manner of wall and ceiling and bedding desperately pulled over our heads until 2:00am when the bar closed down. Then we enjoyed another hour of clamor from revelers who took the party down to the street (the fact that the street was 80 feet below us did nothing to diffuse the sound). Mix in the occassional street sweeper, police siren, bottle breaking, or human scream, and it would be hard to find a more restful night of sleep this side of Beirut.
[A brief aside. I am not 100 years old. My wife and I are in our early 30s, have spent most of our adult life living in big cities, and enjoy a night of drinking and dancing as much as the next couple. Some of our best hotel experiences have been at places with great social scenes (e.g., the Soho Grand in NYC, the Opus Hotel in Vancouver, the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas). But any hotel that is going to stay in business needs to find a way to separate the sounds of the party from the bedrooms where guests are trying to sleep.]
Some other problems besides the noise:
1) The hotel was dirty. Not to say that rats were running over our feet, but you did not have to squint very hard to notice that the windows were all smudged and that the cleaning crew did not bother spending much time in the corners of rooms and other hard to reach places.
2) Our room was small and, in at least one respect, poorly laid out. The hotel has included a window from the bedroom to the shower, with a beaded curtain drawn closed to provide privacy for the person in the shower (and to enhance the excitement, I guess ... ooh la la). I suppose this is an interesting design idea, if not an entirely original one. Unfortunately, the designer forgot to think about the fact that a lot of people will get up to use the bathroom at some point in the middle of the night and will turn on the bathroom light. Since the beaded curtain does not block light, the light from the bathroom then pours into the bedroom and wakes up anybody left in the bed.
[Another brief aside. You would think from my compliants so far that I am a light sleeper. I am not. The room was just that bad.]
3) The neighborhood around the hotel is still on the "up and coming" side of development. There is a nice park down the street, a leftover from the 1996 Olympics. But other aspects of the neighborhood are definitely unpolished. This is not the Glenn's fault, and is an aspect of nicer hotels in many big cities, but I still wanted to mention it in case you are easily frightened by panhandlers.
Had the hotel room been cheaper, I suppose that some of these issues would not have bothered me as much. But the hotel room was more than $300 (including tax) on a Wednesday night, for which I expect something better. On this very same trip, for example, my wife and I paid more than double our Glenn hotel nightly room rate at the hotel we visited in the Caribbean, but were more than happy to pay it because the service and accommodations were spectacular. On the back end of the trip, we stayed one night at an airport Holiday Inn, spent much less than we did for our evening at the Glenn, and were also happy because the service and accommodations at the Holiday Inn were in line with the price. (The Holiday Inn rooms were also a lot cleaner and quieter and the beds were more comfortable than at the Glenn). In each of those other instances, we felt like we got what we paid for. The same cannot be said of the Glenn.

I booked my reservation through hotwire, I didn't have a choice for which hotel i would be staying, but when I found out it was The glenn I went to their website www.glennhotel.com. I was very pleased to see their pictures, product, services. When I arrived at the hotel, It looked nothing like it was advertised. The lobby is small and very crowded. The space between the check in and the bar is about 8 yards so as u check in u'r listening to a bunch of drunks babbling away. The front desk has only 2 computers, and 4 staff members. I didn't get greeted or acknowledged for about 15 minutes because all their attention went to one irate guest. I was very frustrated as it was late and tired from traveling across country. I asked to be helped and I was put on hold. I finally got some help when I made it a point that i needed to be helped "NOW". The unprofessional front desk clerk rolled his eyes and gave me a room. The room wasn't what I had booked. I made a reservation and paid for in full for a King bed, I got a queen and a tinny room. I informed the staff about the problem and their answer "Sir you made your reservation through hotwire, this is what we have for you, if u have a problem please contact hotwire" in a very snobish way. I felt like they looked down on hotwire customers. House keeping knocked on my door early in the morning even though I had a "Do not disturb" sign on the door. The door man has amnesia, for he kept asking if I enjoyed the resturant? The valet was rude to my guests who just wanted to park for few minutes to pick me up. The pool was closed, the roof top was closed the resturant was new and empty. The lobby is congested and the furniture isn't what they make it seem like it is.
I have stayed in many hotels throughout the world. I got better service and respect from 1 star highway hotels.
Management at the glenn should retire their staff or retrain them.
They should also update their website and use pictures of their current state.
I will not be going back their.......
