Beautiful hotels with flaws

I stayed at the 71 Nyhavn Hotel with my collegues from work as we were having a conference in Copenhagen.
The location is great. It is situated in Nyhavn and there is only about a five minute walk to Stroget and a 15 minute walk to tivoli.
The hotel was in my mind very beautiful. Yes, the rooms are fairly small (although mine was a lot larger than one of my colleagues) but I do not really mind to much about the size. How many walkabouts do you do in your hotelroom?
Breakfast was ok. It was very much what you expect from a hotel. Nothing more, nothing less.
What made me a little disappointed was that such a beautiful hotel had so many of the little things go wrong. In my room I had a broken light bulb for instance. Also the water tap in the bath room was leaking. It should happen in a hotel with obvious high ambitions.
Also the service was definately not top notch. One day we were having lunch at the hotel but because it was a danish bank holiday the restaurang was closed and we had to have the lunch in the lobby. Why? Also when we were supposted to have lunch the staff seemed compleatly surpriced about the whole thing.
Most of my colleagues left the hotel fairly early (about 6.30 am) to catch a flight back to Stockholm. Hotel started serving breakfast at 7 a.m so they inquired if something could be prepared for them so they could have something to eat before they left. In my mind that is not an unreasonable request and at the time of the booking of the hotel it was promised that something could be arranged. But the staff at the hotels could not arrange anything for my colleagues so they had to have breakfast at the airport instead.
To summarize: The hotel is beautiful with great locaton and obvious have high ambitions but they are doing many of the little things wrong.

I should have heeded the warnings

Soo small.
Just back from a 3 night stay at Nyhavn 71. On arrival, we were shown to our room. It was so small that even a mignon cat could not have been swung in it (granted we had been warned). We returned to the reception and explained our situation. In fairness another room was allocated to us without too much hastle. This room although bigger than the first was still small and lacked any character. We were disappointed because my boyfriend works in construction and was excited about the prospect of a stay in a converted warehouse. In reality, had the hotel created rooms double the size of the one in which we stayed, the integrity of the renovation of such a building would not have been compromised by the greed of a builder/ hotelier. Furthermore, we had read reviews about the wet bathroom floor from others who had stayed in the hotel and used the shower. If I'm honest, I thought that the reviewers were just picking holes..... until I witnessed said floor for myself. It was pointed out to me that some silicone filler between the shower frame and the wall might have prevented much of the flooding. The washandbasin was cracked and the general standard of cleanliness was not wonderful.
Location was superb. We are easygoing travellers, and Copenhagen is a beautiful city. The Danes are extremely friendly people and the food was superb in the local restaurants. The moral of my long-winded lament....read and BELIEVE the reviews of those who have gone before you.
Nice Location, Tiny Rooms

The best thing about this hotel is the location, a short stroll from the quayside at Nyhavn where about 20 restaurants are located side by side. A bus service (no.29) is just across the bridge to take you right into the city centre. The Metro from the airport takes you to a station which is a five minute walk from the hotel.
71 Nyhavn Hotel is a converted warehouse with wooden beams jutting out everywhere. Most of the rooms do not have a view of the canal - the building is crowded on three sides by other buildings so make sure you specify a room.
Rooms with a view are even numbers 202 to 220, and similarly for upper floors (302 to 320 etc). Baths are tiny - your knees will be folded up to your chin. Our room was a so-called suite and the shower had a wooden beam at head height, so watch your head. Ceilings are low - you can touch it with your hand. The beds are comfortable with nice pillows but the rooms are so small that the effect is claustrophobic.
English language TV is limited to CNN and MTV though local channels show lots of English language movies and TV shows and sub-title them in Danish. The basement bar is cosy but has no buzz, but that's not an issue since there are loads of bars a stroll away.
Rooms have a minibar but no safe or ironing facilities. Would I stay there again? No - there must be better value in this very expensive city.

My wife, 3 year old daughter, and I stayed there on 10th Dec., 2007. I had visited the hotel before for meals and had been impressd compared to the cheap and not too nice bars along Nyhaven,
Our room was number 102 (not a smoking room but had ben recently used by a smoker) was tiny with a terrible view and was stuck in the rearmost part of the hotel..
Double bed was small for the room and was pushed up against a wall leaving a narrow passage to a tiny toilet. A third bed had been ordered (and which had been acknowledged in their e-mail confirmation) for our 3 year old child but they had not supplied it. Anyway there would have been no room to fold it out
Nor when I was checking out, did the receptionist even bother to ask whether or not I enjoyed my stay. Copenhagen is one of the world's great city - but is let down by Nyhavy positioning itself as a 4/5 star hotel. There are better budget hotels available .
Filled out the Nyhaven 71 customer comment card but received no reply,
Had initially booked two nights but was very glad to leave after one night.. By the way it was a 'SUPERIOR double room' in Nyhavn 71 !!
