When you are looking for 5star and excellent service, the Marcliff is your hotel. We needed a hotel that would deal with a smoker in the now nonsmoking Scotland. They gave us 2 side by side rooms with doors that opened out on to the graveled patio area, perfect for my husband, yet allowed my daughters and me a smoke free environment. They arranged clay pigeon shooting for the 3 of us while he played golf, even paid our deposit for us, which was then added to our bill.. They can arrange fishing outings as well, which they did for us the last time we stayed there. The staff is very helpful, room service is not only prompt but some things arrived so hot we had to wait to eat it.
Very comfortable beds, good fluffy linens, large bathrooms, plenty of hot water and water pressure. Breakfast was hot and had a good variety, with both a continental bar for self serve and cook to order.
If you're going to use the spa, book well in advance. Because of all the weddings going on there during our stay, all the times we booked..our only disappointment.

Nothing on the breakfast menu for vegetarians so I had half a slice of toast for breakfast! They ran out of bread so we had to ask for more, no glasses for the fruit juice so we had to ask for again. The aberdeen rolls were brick hard and not fresh. Not a good selection at all for a hotel of this price. The evening vegetarian meal was also practically non existent consistingof a spring roll, cheese souffle ( I can't eat egg whites) sweetcorn parsnips and carrots! I had a very hungry weekend! The room we got was so noisy being right above where the delivery lorries and vans come starting very early in the morning! Not really worth the money at all.

An excellent hotel spoilt only by the kitchen which seems to burn the outside of everything (including an omlette!) whilst undercooking the inside of meat. I think they grill things.
I spent three nights there and had lunch each day as well.
The breakfast team were excellent and provided everything to a high standard.
But the lunch and evening service seem to have been taken over by the french idea of nearly raw meat. That is great for beef but when they serve fatty lamb or pink pork that is not so nice. I sent my lamb back and later discretely asked other members of the (large) party what they thought. No-one had liked it. One guy thought it was off and three others had left theirs untouched.
Having said that, I have rarely encountered such a pleasent and helpful team of staff. There was no problem they could not solve - and quickly with no fuss.

Again we rounded off our Scottish touring holiday with a 2 day stay at the Marcliffe.
Again we had superb service and a wonderful room.
Everything is of the highest standard at this superb hotel.
I do mean everything,
The size of the rooms - excellent.
The cleanliness - first class.
The service - cannot be faulted.
The bathrooms - wonderful, bigger, better & cleaner than some hotel rooms we have stayed in.
Televisions & Internet service - very good.
The restaurant.... well if one was going to be picky...this is the one area that slightly lets the Marcliffe down.
Your choice is very limited to Beef or Lobster.
But you do get exactly what it says on the brochure.
It is a very American menu... very American... Steaks from 10oz to 32 ozs ... I kid you not 32ozs of grilled fillet steak.
Hows about an eye popping 10 oz grilled beefburger with chips or baked potato.. No finesse here just pure size and good quality...
very little choice . although the lobsters menu is also good.
A Surf & Turf - fillet steak & lobster - £62 - but very very good.
But I must also say the the restaurant service is very good.
If you want a steak restaurant in a top class hotel you could do no better in the whole of Scotland than to enjoy a few nights at the wonderful Marcliffe.
