Enjoyed the Douglas Fir

We were 2 families with children ranging from 6 - 12 who stayed at the Douglas Fir for 2 nights in July. The rooms were a little dated and small with the murphy bed down but we still really enjoyed the accommodation. Everything was spotlessly clean including the stove, fridge and kitchen area. We liked the ambience of the surroundings and the children loved the waterslides, pool and indoor play area. The temperature of the small pool (without slides) was perfect and we all had so much fun there. Next time we'll take our tennis racquets so that we can enjoy the tennis courts too. We had the bed and breakfast package which was better priced directly through the hotel than through the big name travel and hotel websites. Plenty of food provided and sadly we had to leave quite a lot of bacon and eggs behind. We would definitely stay there again despite the somewhat tired decor of the room.

First off, I must say that this is the type of hotel EVERY family should book with kids. We travelled here with our two girls (9 & 12.... going on 13 & 16).... This is the first time the girls have been to the mountains and my husband wanted to give them the most of that! Unfortunately the hotel's ammenties had other ideas. The water slides and pool were "the place to be".... After the gondola ride and any other nature hikes it was "when can we go on the waterslides". As soon as they woke in the morning it was "when are the slides open".... Banff is amazing, tonnes to see and do, but if you're staying here, be prepared to have a tonne of competition with "the slides"... they're very very addicting (even for mom and dad!).
We were pleasantly surprised to have bacon, eggs, milk, OJ, and coffee in the fridge when we got there! Nice touch, especially after trying to find a parking space for the Canada Day parade (nearly impossible) and then a restaurant. We had a "brunch" dinner! Cost saving and a beautiful dining view!
The staff was very pleasant and helpful. I would strongly suggest taking total advantage of the transit service, which runs downtown every 1/2 hour. Parking can be very frustrating and there are so many people walking around, could be dangerous!
All in all, Douglas Fir is definitately at the top of my list, especially if you have kids.

I relied on Trip Advisor and the reviews to book this resort. Now be prepared that everything in Banff is overpriced....so if you are looking for value based on the money paid, I would give this resort a thumbs up. The staff were friendy, and the package offered was ready upon check-in. The one bedroom chalet was adequate. It appeared the bathroom had been renovated and was very clean !!! The rest of the suite was clean however the decor is dark, so it may appear a bit gloomy at first. The waterslides were perfect fo the kids as was the play area. I would definitely return to this Resort.

We stayed here for 2 nights and wish we could have had longer.
The room was clean and well presented, the small pool and the hot tub were enjoyed by all of us, just a shame that the water slides weren't open.
The indoor playpark is good, and whilst you do have to enter it through the underground carpark it is not a big problem.
We will be staying here again, hopefully next year and would recommend it to anyone.

We have stayed here several times....Including for our wedding. We always enjoy our stay. They have a small water park with 2 water slides....
kiddie pool....and steam room....plus a more private pool area with a hot tub and sauna exclusively for hotel guests which is usually empty.
The rooms have a cabin feel with full kitchens and wood burning fireplaces...our rooms have always been clean and comfortable they replaced all of the sofa beds summer of 2007 and most lodges (anything not a studio suite in the main building) have murphey beds which are very comfortable. There is no restaunt at the resort but is one across the street or a short walk (5-10minutes) to downtown. The rates are reasonable especially the bed and cook your own breakfast you get lots of food and just toss dishes in the dishwasher before you leave for the day and this package is usually cheaper then the rack rate for the room.
