I was referred to this hotel by a colleague who travels very frequently, and did not regret my visit. The staff are extremely friendly and eager to please. The rooms are actually little suites, and I really appreciated having a living room area and kitchenette that were separate from the bedroom. There is also a sink and mirror outside the main bathroom.
I had read mixed reviews about the hotel, for instance, that the beds were lumpy and the hotel was a bit run-down. This was not my experience at all. I had a lovely, new mattress and the hotel was actually repainting the doors in the hallway nearby. Rooms were very clean as well. I didn't try the breakfast service, but there is a shopping complex with several restaurants next door.
If you are looking for a trendy boutique hotel, this is not it. The decor is obviously from the 1980s and is nothing extravagant (dark green rug and light coloured walls, nothing special). But, if you are looking for a comfortable, quiet hotel in the Tucson area, especially if you need to work or just want some peace, this is a great choice. Here's a tip: there is a Trader Joe's grocery store right across the street, so you can stalk your fridge. Just bring (or buy) utensils and maybe a plate, because the kitchenette is not stalked.
Also, I only realized on the night before I left that the hotel is about 1 mile from a really beautiful winding highway that leads up to the Catalina mountains. Do not miss this, it is SPECTACULAR at sunset, with Saguaros right by the roadside.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the staff at the Windmill Inn. They were truly delightful and very helpful. They can also bake a mean cookie. I found the lobby to be a nice size and was comforted to see that it was well maintained and clean. The elevator is a little small but I didn't have long to wait. The room was a very large decent size and is a suite. There were two double beds in the bedroom area and they were very comfortable. Clean sheets! There was a large sofa and lots of area to sit. There was a small breakfast bar and a kitchen area. There was small refrigerator and microwave that worked well and were clean. The living area was roomy and the furniture clean and relatively new. The bathroom had a tub was clean and could be entered either by the living area or the bedroom through either of two doors.
I did notice that the free breakfast ends rather early and you snooze and all the acroutements are gone very quickly when closing time comes. When I did have the opportunity to have breakfast, there was ample food and various offerings including do-it-yourself waffles, bagels, cereals and yogurt. Coffee, tea, milk, and juice were available. There were some fresh fruit there and as well in the lobby. The waffles were fun for me as an adult and I am sure that kids would enjoy making them in the self serve area. There were plenty of seats around the breakfast area. I noticed a bit late that there was coffee available during the day as well as fresh water on the side of the lobby and that is great touch. The staff honored my request for a late checkout for which I was very grateful.
My only complaint was that the pool was quite small and there were only a couple of older lounge chairs in the pool area. Being in Arizona the pool is most important to me. The guests were mainly retirees and very nice to my college age daughter and I. Did I mention how nice the front staff was? Yes and I had to repeat myself because they were. The place was very "Apple Pie and Chevrolet". By that I mean great hospitality like the good old days.
The area that the hotel is location is ideal to local shopping and close to a food market Trader Joes. It is also convenient to Sabino Canyon and the the vicinity to the foothills and golf. It is a 15-20 minute ride to the University of Arizona depending on traffic. At rush hour you need to give yourself a little added time but the school is located right on Campbell and Speedway. The location is also fairly close to Oracle Rd, golf courses at the resorts in that area and shopping. There are many restaurants along Campbell and close to the hotel. The ones within the shopping center of the hotel are a little pricey but convenient. You certainly need a car if you don't want to spend the entire time within the little shopping area. The shopping area itself has a spanish flavor to is and very cute like a village. Parking is free and we didn't have a problem finding a spot in spite of being in a shopping center. The hotel is not really close to the freeway but you really don't need the freeway to get around Tucson. I would recommend this hotel and Tucson in general.

Pleasantly surprised to find a decent-sized refrigerator and good sized bathroom, disappointed with lack of outlets in the bedroom.
Basically everything thing else, everyone said. I checked to see if there would be additional Windmill Suites properties on my drive to Miami, but alas, they are only in Oregon & Arizona.
