We stayed at Wisteria Hotel Oakham, Rutland on 15 & 16th February 2008. I had mixed feelings about this hotel: While our room was warm, clean and a decent size it was a little dated and “tatty around the edges” The bottled water & a few of pieces of fresh fruit on tea/coffee tray was a nice touch. Our view was over the car park which meant the room was away from the possible noise of the main road, and as car parks go it was quite pretty, with spring bulbs starting to show their faces. Bathroom was clean but this too was in need of a bit of update. Shower can only be described as feeble as well as inconsistent. The hotel car park can’t accommodate a car for each room so if planning to arrive late it may be an issue, although there is a public car park next to the hotel.
Breakfast was good, self service for cereals/fruit yoghurt/juices, then cooked options to order. The Full English was notable un-greasy & lovely & hot (how do they do that, I never can?!) & there was the increasingly hard to find fish as an option for a cooked breakfast.
Staff were all very helpful and chatty and, unusually these days in the hotel trade, there was absolutely no language barrier what so ever.
Over all I felt it was a little over priced. At ?95 for double room B&B I would have expected a “little extra” to what the Wisteria hotel can offer at this time. Having said that it was ideal for our purposes (A walking weekend) but I would have a good look around at other hotels if returning to this area.

We booked the hotel from the web (checking out reviews on here and elsewhere) and I can now confirm/reiterate what a good little hotel this is.
We only stayed there as a base as my boyfriend was doing the Vitreuvian Triathlon (half iron man) at Rutland Water - so arrived fairly late on Friday evening. The restaurant stops doing food at 9pm - so we headed to the curry house just over the road - would highly recommend the curry and service there.
The hotel car park is small - as in dont think it takes as many cars as it has rooms which is slight draw back - but we parked on the main road outside - and the car was safe there (you have to move it by 8am). You can park in the public car park next door - but that looked a bit empty and dimly lit for my likings (although the neighbourhood looks very safe).
We were in the new block of rooms at the back of the hotel - which were fine. Clean, very big bed, tea / coffee and water in the rooms, plus nice touch of complimentary small selection of fruit.
I recommend the breakfast (included in the rate) - selection of freshly made fruit salad/yoghurts/cheeses/toast/cereal etc etc, plus freshly cooked breakfast to order. Oven warmed fresh croissant were a
nice touch too. A***
The hotel is quiet (no road noise), and given it includes excellent breakfast - good value for money.
Go ahead and book - for £85 a night - you wont be dissapointed.

A group of us stayed here prior to a visit in the area. We found this to be a very comfortable hotel, nice rooms, good food and good value. It has its own private car park set back from the road, and felt secure.
The building is a combination of old and new, with the public rooms in the old part and the bedrooms being fairly moderm. Would stay here again.
