I stayed here just one (hot) no a/c) night in July with my daughter. Hotel is in a great location to walk into the town and river. We had a room at the back so not on main road.
Room size and bathroom OK...Breakfast good.....service at breakfast a little surly, but good at reception.
The hotel overall is adequate...clean but a little tired.

We stayed here for a week while my husband did some work at the university. Aside from the lack of air conditioning, I was really pleased with this hotel. The rooms definitely seem to differ greatly -- I passed by a single room which was being cleaned and it looked tiny and stuffy, but our double was spacious and lovely (we had room 210). I thought the bathroom was especially nice, with a big tub and a window. The rubber ducks in the tub were cute.
The location is great, and the service was very friendly at breakfast (which was good), dinner (also good, for a hotel restaurant), room service (tasty sandwich), bar, and reception. We somehow booked a shorter stay than we intended (our mistake), and they were able to extend our reservation, and were very understanding about the situation. The cleaning service was prompt and very good.
The noise from the street was a little annoying during the day, but at night (around 10:00) it really quieted down. It was well worth it for having everything within easy walking distance.
Don't eat at Brown's, as someone else on here mentioned. I've never had such insanely slow service in my life. Walk down past the Fens to Rice Bowl, which was easily my favorite restaurant in Cambridge.

On arrival, we were fairly pleased with this hotel. Check-in was quick and efficient, the hotel has a free car park, and the room was spacious and well-furnished. Our experience thereafter had both good and bad points.
While the room was very comfortable, and contained all that one might need, I cannot help but report a threadbare carpet and mildew in the bathroom. This did not detract greatly from our stay, though, and we enjoyed a good night's sleep. The noise from the road may bother some, though, if the windows are open. I suppose this cannot be helped with such a conveniently central hotel.
Our evening meal went well, apart from our waitress's forgetting our wine order. The food was very good, though, and it arrived quickly; indeed the service generally was very good. I was also pleased with the bar staff. Our breakfast was a similar experience. The food was good, and was brought quickly; however neither of us got what we ordered. This was a disappointment, considering the quality of the food and service otherwise.
In all, the hotel and the staff are very good, but the whole experience would be greatly improved by a better sense of organisation.

Possibly because of my lowered expectations for all lodgings in Cambridge, I was favorably surprised by the very sunny, high ceilinged executive double we booked for one night mid week (sans breakfast) a room that looked back over the parking lot and the somewhat busy traffic on the Fens but was still surprisingly quiet. Furnishings were very antiquated and worn but of good quality (presumably quite attractive once upon a time), king size bed quite comfortable. I had expected tighter quarters but welcomed the larger than expected size of the L-shaped room, two tall double hung windows with the L portion of th eroom accommodating a sleeper sofa. Reception was helpful, making an effort to get us checked in despite our early (11am) arrival. We booked here mainly since we knew it would be easy to park (free in/out parking, via token for residents). Hotel is very conveniently located on Trumpington, minute away from the Fitzwilliam Museum, and very near the colleges; several easily reached eateries (Browns, pastries, seafood restaurant, pastry shop) and convenience shops very close by. Prices are roughly double the Lensfield a half block away, justified mainly by slightly roomier quarters.

ok (budget) hotel. good location

With several colleagues went to cambridge for a conference and the whole group stayed in this hotel (for just 1 night).
My experience was OK. The common places of the hotel are in typical English (old fashioned) style. It would probably benefit of some refreshing works, nevertheless it is still acceptable. The room is quite basic but was not small and it was clean. The air ios that of a budget hotel however. For info, I was on the 2nd floor.
However, some colleagues of mine complained about their rooms. Apparently some rooms are defenitely better than others and I was luckier than others.
Staff was helpful and always nice. Breakfast (buffet) acceptable.
In brief: main pros are location (fairly central) and price (reasonable fopr the UK). But perhaps we got a lower rate because of the group so this may not be necessarily valid for other people.
Main cons: facilities are very basic, rooms (and to a lesser degree the common parts) are somewhat worn out.
If I could have, I would have given it 2,5 points instead of 3.
