We loved this place but knew what to expect. Bring ear plugs as the place can be a bit noisey sometimes. (it is an old historic building) Also the rooms are not pitch black so bring eye cover if a little light bothers you in the morning. It is truly charming atmosphere with plenty of history. The breakfast is nice carb heavy but enjoyable. We loved the happy hour can't belive it was free considering price of room was great bargain! It is not a new luxury hotel so the antique rooms are small and bathrooms tiny but cute. We adore sitting on the front porch and having a cold drink it was like stepping back in time and totally relaxing. Parking was FREE! Elsewhere we have paid $10-20. WE LOVE THIS PLACE!! My husband is no great lover of walking like me but even he was able to walk to Pier and Baywalk. There is so much fun and great dining!! I could have stayed a week. Beaches are only 20-25 mins away!!

I found the Pier a couple of years ago, after trying to find an affordable motel that had a little personality and was not the typical on the main strip chain motel. I have stayed at the Pier regularly since that first visit everytime I travel from Miami to visit family. I always feel like I am staying with an extended family from the moment I arrive until I leave. I love the comfy and quaint rooms. While no frills, the rooms are clean and most include a microwave and mini fridge. Beware no hightech t.v. or thick towels. If you get to know the motel, you'll find which rooms are the best and most quiet. This is a historic motel and so be prepared for it to be "old" and there is no elevator, but that is part of its charm. I love the morning breakfast, but also the Starbucks a couple blocks away. In the evening, many very close and good restaurants. If you're alone, you won't feel uncomfortable venturing out on your own. All in all, this is a prize you won't want to miss if you are in the St. Pete area!

We live in Tampa and come over to stay here every now and again just to spice things up. The hotel is gorgous, charming, perfect. Location could not be handpicked any better no matter where you are walking to in downtown. And if you stick around for the afternoon happy hour the free snacks and drinks will almost pay for the extrememly economical room price.
Can't say enough great things about this place, stay there.

Wow, I really loved this place!!! Location is the best, close to everything, never used our car in the 3 days we spent there. The room was nice and comfy, not a 5 star room but great all the same. Nice breakfast, lots of stuff on it and the happy hour! Great beer and wine and some snacks, I don't know any other hotel that does this anymore for FREE! Met some really nice people during happy hour on the front pourch, really cool social hour (2hours!)
The best overall is the staff here, they are all really great and know the area well. Always said "hello" and "have a nice day"...don't hear that too often from hotel employees anymore, very personable.
I would for sure stay again! Very cool historic hotel, a jewel in St. Petes crown!

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Pier Hotel for four nights this week for a getaway. I was a little concerned as the reviews here were so good - it almost seemed suspicious. But we learned firsthand that they were truthful and the stay was a great value for the money we paid (roughly $100 a night).
First and foremost, this is Florida, thus the standard is a little different than the rest of the country. Yes, some areas of the hotel are a little shabby but then again, this does not claim to be a five star establishment. If you like chains, this is not a place for you. We found it more reminiscent of a bed and breakfast without the annoyance of inteacting with strangers in the morning. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The decor takes a little getting used to but there is a microwave and a fridge which comes in very handy and the air conditioning works like a charm. Housekeeping was impeccable but beware of the towels - although clean, they have been around for a while. The free breakfast is the same everyday and could use some fresh fruit instead of the canned peaches that we saw. The afternoon happy hour is a nice touch, but again, the same every day. The front desk staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the area and they are around all the time. We found the hotel very quiet at night even though it is on a busy street. The location is unbeatable - you are only a couple of blocks from everything in town and we walked to dinner every night. Overall, we would stay again.
