The hotel is pretty close to the voltaire metro station and Mcdonalds. It is in a corner on a small street and the entrance is nice. You get free breakfast and it's delicious and has a nice variety. The staff is very nice, however, they barely speak English. We didn't get the wake up call that we asked for, and there are no clocks in the room, so we had a really late start to our only day in Paris. The next day, they called twice (an hour earlier and at the time we wanted), probably to make up for the day before. The rooms are reallllyy tiny! I don't think i've ever seen a smaller room. Anyone could just walk along the side of the building to get onto our balcony and then if they wanted, into our room (because it was hot and you have to either open the whole window door or not get any air.) We booked the room on a website and we payed less than the daily price, however still felt that we payed too much. Between the wall and the bed, there was a very small space and the bed was not too far off the ground. Oh, we also tried getting directions for the open top bus and the man did a semi-good job, but we still got lost. (I guess that goes with the language barrier.) Regardless, our stay was okay, but if anything, we would only stay there again because of the good breakfast and pretty good location. AND, the rooms were clean.

For a relatively cheap price, me and my wife didn't expect very much of this small hotel. However, it surprised us with nice, tidy and quiet room and the most friendly and polite staff. They really made us feel welcome to our first visit in Paris. The doule room wasn't too large, and there was only one wall socket. There was no AC either, but the large window can be opened. The buffet breakfast was simple but very good - the coffee was excellent for nordic taste. We would stay here on next visit, too!

Convenient location about 10 mins walk to Bastille. There are 2 supermarkets very close by, one almost behind the hotel and one just across from the corner of Rue Petion where the hotel is located. The name of this one is "Leader." There is a big sign at the side facing Rue Petion.
The hotel staff during the day was very friendly but the older male staff member during the night was not so friendly, and left me with the impression that I was bothering him when I asked a question.
The room was very tiny. We had three beds and there was almost no room to walk. Hotel was very clean.
The buffet breakfast was quite good, enough to choose from and the breakfast staff was very hard working. They kept refilling the bread baskets and other stuff very quickly. The crossaints were great. Everyone was warmly greeted when they arrived and acknowledged when they left. We enjoyed our stay in Paris.
We came in by train to Gare du Nord, so here are some directions to get to this hotel from there.
Directions:
From Gare du Nord, take the orange line on the Metro to Republique, this train's destination would say Place d'Italie which is the last stop. Get off at Republique and change to the olive green line, this destination should say Mairie de Montreuil, get off at Voltaire. When you are on the corner, look for the supermarket which faces the roundabout. The hotel is almost behind that supermarket.
You can also see a great deal of the city by taking the buses. Bus #69 is a great one. It passes at the corner of the Voltaire Metro station and hits many places of interests on many visitor's lists. For instance, it passes in front of the Louvre and there is a stop in front of the triangular glass structure. ..very convenient.

Hotel very convenient for metro, but that's the only thing going for it. We booked a triple room but no space even to unpack - we lived out of suitcases for a week. No tea and coffee making facilities in room and when we asked about it, tea bags and a kettle were provided - no milk. One of the reception staff and one of the breakfast waiters very rude. My husband stopped to chat to another English couple at breakfast and was told to return to his seat!! All in all it didnt spoil our stay, but would never go back!
Full of Parisian charm!

We stayed in the New Hotel Candide for 3 nights last Easter and had a brilliant stay. The hotel was great value for money so we didnt expect it to be as great as it was. It is a 10 min walk from the Bastille metro stop which was quite far when you're lugging suitcases, but it was easy to find.
Our room was a good size and extremely clean. We were so pleased to get 2 balconies - one from the bedroom and one from the bathroom! My fiance enjoyed many a beer on the balcony in the sunshine! We had a great view of a traditional Parisian street and could see the locals milling about in their own apartments across the street. The hotel feels like it is in the heart of REAL Paris, not the tourist parts. It had a 24hr reception so you could come and go as you pleased.
Overall we loved this hotel, especially with it being such a good price! Full of charm with a welcoming atmosphere.
