We stayed at the 4 Pillars on the 20th. and 21st. of June/08 to attend our son's wedding which was held at the hotel. I must confess that after having read previous reviews we were nervous about what to expect. Because of these reviews we reserved one of the hotel's "Connoisseur" rooms - supposedly their better rooms, but were somewhat disappointed with this decision. ( This, by the way, is the ONLY negative in this review ). In comparing our room with the average rooms that other members of our family (10 rooms in total ) had booked we wished that we had one of those rooms. They were clean, obviously renovated recently, quiet, with nice views of the hotel grounds and of a high quality. Yes, the layout was virtually the same as hotels the world over, but who cares? Ours was very large, which was nice, but old and worn, noisy, and in desperate need of upgrading. My parents had one of these superior rooms as well and it too needed an overhaul. That's it - end of criticism.
The hotel is beautiful: lounge/foyer is lovely, hallways are clean and have all been recently painted, pool was very nice, the grounds are something to be proud of, the manager is EXTREMELY hardworking and dedicated, the food was SUPERB!! I don't know whether they bring a chef in specifically for an event or not but the food for the wedding as well as the night before was outstanding. Breakfast was typical English breakfast buffet, but we are from Canada where you don't even get breakfast with your hotel reservation so to us it was great. What more could you want for breakfast than a choice of, well, everything? My husband and I travel considerably, usually stay in 5 star hotels and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Oxford. We would stay here again without a doubt.

We stayed in this hotel for a wedding at the location. The staff were very friendly and the hotel room was excellent. The room was of a high standard with all of the usual items expected of a lovely hotel.
The staff instructed us on how to get into the city and were happy to organise transport to and back, and provide us with taxi numbers so we didn't get stuck anywhere.
It was also a lovely venue for the wedding, with a reception in the 'Old Barn', and wedding photos in the courtyard.
We did try to book to use the spa / beauty treatments but they were fully booked. If you go, they advise booking a couple of weeks in advance.

This was our second visit to this lovely hotel, and I have to say the standard has improved greatly since my last visit. Friendly staff, a new menu, and it looks like a spring clean made my stay very enjoyable. My room looked our onto the walled garden and I enjoyed a morning reading sitting on the bench outside my window.
Left feeling relaxed and had good value for money

I recently stayed at this hotel when I was visiting the local area.
Upon my arrival the staff were friendly and efficient and I was impressed by the character of the buildings and the comfortable surroundings.
My room was a little dated but was large, clean and very comfortable. As I use a wheelchair, it can be difficult to stay in some hotels due to the lack of space in rooms. This was not a problem here!
The health club facilities at the hotel are excellent. The pool is the perfect size and with a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym is very well equipped.
I ate lunch in the lounge on two occasions. The selection of food is very good, it is well presented and tastes good.
Overall, I had a lovely stay at this traditional and impressive hotel. The staff are pleasant and the hotel is very welcoming. Its location on the river only adds to its appeal and I look forward to staying again in the future.
