We stayed at this beautiful hotel. It was a little more expensive than some of the others but we are so glad we picked this one. We picked it because it was on the beach, and within walking distance to the shopping and wonderful restaurants on every corner and the balcony overlooking Mount Vesuvius. This place delivered it all. We were upgraded to the junior suite, which was a huge beautiful room with a small balcony which you could not sit on, only look out. I was hoping for a bigger balcony, but the bar was right next door with a large balcony. Our room was so nice that I was very satisfied. The rooms with balconies sell fast so I would confirm that when you book it. The view of Mount Vesuvius is breathtaking and so was the sunset. My 7 year old son loved the beach area with all of the slides and swimming platforms. My husband even loved the beach and he is not a typical beach goer. The beach also had a restaurant and massages and plenty of loungers to rent. We walked to dinner every night and I walked to shopping during the day while my husband and son went to the beach. The location is outstanding. The hotel staff was very attentive and professional. The breakfast was great. It was a trip to remember and I would highly recommend this hotel. I would definitely see the Amalfi Coast. The views are the most magnificient I have ever seen, don't miss Positano or Ravello. I would skip the Emerald grotto on the way to the Amalfi Coast. It was a complete waste of time. I would also skip the ferry ride to Capri if I had to chose between the Amalfi Coast and Capri.

We stayed at the Tramontano for 10 days having spent 4 days in Rome on a 2-centre holiday. The position of this hotel is superbly convenient for the town which was smaller than we imagined and for visits to Capri (overated), Naples (dirty), Pompeii (easy by train and well-worth a trip) and the Amalfi coast (lovely views). Be aware that room sizes and views vary considerably. We did book a sea-view with balcony but finished up on a high corner room with a restricted view which was small compared to others, especially the bathroom which only had a stand-alone corner shower compartment and no bath. Better to view your room before unpacking. We were wrongly advised by our representative that the a/c was not available until June. On enquiring however, the system was operating due to the warm weather but the control in our room was faulty. It had to be repaired twice albeit promptly. Lovely views at breakfast and the food was varied and excellent. Dinner at the hotel was expensive (but then it is 4*) compared to the many local restaurants. Try Zi'ntonios for a good value tourist menu and fun with the waiter and Vecchia Surriento - just 20 metres up the street opposite the hotel entrance for freshly made sandwiches, home-made cheese and spotlessly clean. The Foreigners Club closeby is good for a nightcap and live, if repetitive music. Poolside drinks are not cheap, the equivalent of ?11 for two fresh orange juices with a lot of ice. The poolside was immaculate and free sunbeds were welcome rather than paying about ?20 daily for 2 beds and a parasol on the seafront decking areas!

Our 4th visit to Sorrento and the best hotel yet!!
The sea veiws are to die for, but think it may spoil the size of room you get. The first room we were given was quite small, but were able to swap rooms next morning, reception staff were really helpful.
Breakfast tables were allocated very fairly,if there was a window table free it was given to the next arrivals in the dining room (but it's best to avoid the busy 9am to 9-30 period)
Evening meals in the hotel compare very well with the posher restaurants around, try the set menu with wine included at 40 euros.
Tried a different restaurant each night, some were quite reasonable but other hiked the price by charging for bread and lenoncello on top. Also watch out for service charges,
