I just got back from our family vacation in myrtle beach and stayed at the REEF RESORT.. first of all, the website made this look like paradise but it was not that impressive, then in the midst of the trip, the elevator broke down, we were on the 7th floor..... the elevator never got fixed, although there was a presence of a repairman... the customer service desk, never answered there phone... when you called. I had to ask for some sort of a reprieve because my husband had issues coming up and down the steps. They never informed the guest of the elevator issues... THE POOL... very big but got dirty very quickly and they did a horrible cleaning job.. it was not maintained well at all. the HOT TUB was not exclusively for the adults, children from other hotels came over and used up the hottub area. Housekeeping was horrible... I just could not wait to leave... I do not recommend this hotel to know one.... NO ONE...THIS PLACE SUCKS

My family just returned from 3 nights at The Reef Resort. We were there from 7/13-7/16. The elevator never worked the entire time that we were there....we were on the 5th floor and I am 4 months pregnant. The room was so nasty that my husband did not remove his flip flops the entire time that we were there. I was happy that I thought to bring extra sheets and pillows. Our toilet was wobbly and the entire interior was just gross. We bought food to cook but were so grossed out that we never cooked anything. On the website, this place looks great but trust me when I say that unless you don't mind cockroaches and bedbugs, DO NOT stay here. Pay a little more...it will be worth it!

First of all, the parking is ridiculous. You can maybe fit 20 vechicles in the tiny parking deck directly in front of the hotel. Your other option is too park in another 20 vechicle parking lot a block down on the other side of the street; or in a tiny parking lot a block back on a side street. Not a problem if you don't have 4 people and a baby and luggage. Second, both elevators were out of order! I know things break; but shouldn't they be fixed as soon as possible, especially on July 4th weekend? So we had to walk up seven flights of stairs everytime we went somewhere! The hotel staff gave a small percentage back...but only if you asked for it!! Third, the beds were extremely hard and not comfortable at all. The floor slept better than the bed! I will never be back to The Reef!

First of all, you can skip the online searching for the best rates and call the hotel directly. I made my reservations with Orbitz (with an online coupon) and a lady walked up to the counter while I was checking in and got a better rate.
The Reef has a great location, and great views of the beach. Our room, on the first floor, was not very clean. There was no dish soap, no dishrags, or TOILET PAPER. When I called the front desk about the toilet paper, they told me they were OUT! Another guest I met at the pool gave us a roll out of their room. The maids did not clean the room while we were there, just threw the bedspreads back on the beds. I did find one of their carts in the hallway and was able to get some towels (they didn't leave fresh towels any day nor did they pick up the used ones) and dish soap.
A kid threw up in the pool and when my husband called the front desk they sent out a "mainenance" man who said it was only sunscreen so he left it. NASTY
Ultimately, you get what you pay for. If the Reef is all you can afford, then go for it. The view is great.

Without prior warning, upon arrival I was told I had to give a $250 deposit as well as full payment because I was under 25 years old. I am 24 almost 25 and a government employee and quite embarrassed in front of my fiance and friend had to find an ATM just to be able to CHECK IN!!! The hotel was packed and there was only one elevator working. The housekeeper came in without knocking on two separate occasions. The rooms were quite dirty and old. Our sheets were filthy with stains, and we had to ask for new ones as soon as we got into the room. The staff was unprofessional and unorganized. When going to check out it took thirty minutes because a housekeeping supervisor had to wait on one elevator to take them to inspect our room just so I could get my $250 back. In addition to all of this, there was insufficient parking for the amount of guests, so you waited in the garage for someone to leave or parked in a completely different parking lot and walked. It was ridiculous! Never again!
