This is an older facility, so there are a few bumps and warts. That said, the accomodations were clean, with some nice amenities such as the shower robes. Convenient location on the St. Charles trolley line, and a few blocks from Poydras Street and the French Quarter. The staff was very helpful. You do need to know in advance that parking (as with most facilites in this area) will cost extra, and that the hotel does charge extra for communication access ($4.95) and safe charge ($2.95) per day, required. Overall, if you can get a good rate, this is a good value.

This is a great historical hotel. We loved that it was quiet, but close enough to the French Quarter that we were easily able to go back and forth. The front desk staff -- Kerry and Luis -- were really accomodating. My friend and I arrived at 11:00 a.m. (check-in is 3:00 p.m.) and they were able to give us a room right away and even upgraded us to a suite (for our same very good rate of $109 a night). They were also really great about trying to keep our group in the same area of the hotel when the rest of our party arrived. The St. Charles Street streetcar runs right outside the front door, which is great for getting to Uptown (and nope, you don't hear it). I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good rate and a great location in New Orleans.

The Lafayette Hotel has Old New Orleans charm with modern conveniences. Great location--both convenient and quiet--you can easily hop on the streetcar or walk to the French Quarter. Very friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again.

The Lafayette Hotel was very charming and comfortable. While it wasn't the swankiest hotel I've ever stayed in, the rooms were cute with nice colored walls and a surprisingly comfortable mattress. The one negative thing I would say is there are no overhead lights so the room is a bit dark.
The location is between the Garden District and the French Quarter, and right off Lafayette Square.
The front desk staff was super-accommodating and friendly.
