Excellent place for a romantic get away

The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and have been recently renovated. The hotel staff were wonderful to us and provided great customer service during our stay.
Cozy and charming, almost perfect Casa Munras

My daughter and I stayed three nights at Casa Munras on a trip to check out graduate programs at the Monterey Institute. (If your trip is in connection with that school, tell the reservations staff---you'll get a considerable discount in rates.) It was hard to get a good sense of the hotel from website photos, so I didn't have terribly high expectations. I was wrong. The location is perfect for both walking to shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as for access to Highway 1. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were immaculate, of ample size, and decorated nicely in a kind of French country meets the Pacific northwest style.
The hotel's restaurant, l'Esteban, features a tapas menu---its dishes are beautifully prepared with fresh, local ingredients. This was no mediocre hotel restaurant. The night we ate there, a regionally famous flamenco guitarist was playing.
Although breakfast is offered, we had only coffee. There was really nothing special about the breakfast. It is served in the lobby and consists of the usual cereal, some fruits, bagels, etc., that you'd find in any large hotel chain. Fresh orange juice was not part of the free menu, but could be ordered at extra charge.
My one complaint about the hotel was the thinness of the walls. On one (only one, thank heavens) of the nights we were there, a couple in the room next door first had a very unpleasant disagreement and then... a reconciliation. It was definitely a case of Too Much Information. I don't know if this problem is true of all the buildings in the complex. If you go, you might ask for a room in one of the original buildings, where the walls are probably thicker. On the other two nights of our stay, all was quiet and calm.
All in all, a very pleasant, though not perfect, experience. I'd happily return!

Once again, Casa Munras has succeeded in making a business trip wonderful!
Stayed Jun 23-26. Everyhting is very clean and welcoming. Beds were superb! This time I had a room with two beds and it was definitely more spacious. The bathroom was also bigger. I must say, the carpets could be replaced or steamed but they are ok. Monterey is a moist area near the ocean so I'm sure that's why they look and feel a bit musty.
I used the exercise room this time and it was so nice and well equipped! It had 5 cardio machines, free weights, and nautilus. Fruit and water were available at all times. I used the pool as well. It was warm and rather clean but could have been a bit cleaner.
Front desk staff is helpful and friendly, as usual! Great location; close to anything and everything!
I will be staying again in October!

My daughter and I stayed here on a girls road trip. We got a great rate on Priceline. The bed was so comfortable! We felt very safe.
Were happy to be able to park here and walk a few blocks to take a trolley to all we wanted to see. The room was very small, but we spent little time in it! There was a street fair near by on the Tuesday night we stayed. Wonderful looking fruits and vegies!

The rooms are redone nicely and the beds are extremely comfortable. The rooms are very small, but comfortable. The main problem was the very thin walls. We were in a lower level unit and constantly could hear people banging down the stairs, conversating etc...
The grounds are pretty and the lobby nicely done. Good location as it is only a short walk to shops and restaurants. Would stay again but ask for an upper level room hopefully tucked away in a corner so there isn't so much foot traffic in front of the room.
