My husband and I were only in Killarney for a short visit and had heard about this hotel and it's facilities so we decided to stay here.
From the minute I entered the hotel until the minute I left I experienced nothing but friendly, pleasant, genuine and helpful staff. The room was perfect and very clean. It was lovely to have such a big leisure centre. We didn't think we would use it but in fact we used it every day! Breakfast was excellent and we ate in the restaurant one of the nights and again food was excellent. What I really loved was the constant great atmosphere that is in the Gleneagle hotel. There's always a buzz. I for one will certainly be returning very soon. Brilliant!

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Gleneagles a couple of weeks ago. We were there to see comedian Des Bishop in the INEC and stayed the night so we could have a few drinks after the show. Checked in around 4pm and the reception staff were busy but pleasant all the same. We ate dinner in OD’s restaurant, before the show, which I couldn’t fault, good menu choice, friendly staff and the food was delicious. Des Bishop was hilarious as usual - a great crowd there! We finished up in the bar for a few night caps, we’d planned on heading into town but never made it as we were happy where we were. Didn’t make it to breakfast so can’t comment on that but did manage a quick dip in the pool before we left. I didn’t even realise they have such a big leisure centre! I have to admit I’m a little surprised reading some of the previous comments, seems almost like we stayed in a different hotel.

Just back from a 2 night stay at the Gleneagle and to be perfectly honest we will not be returning, nor will we recommend this hotel to anyone planning a stay in Killarney. The first indicator that this hotel has some strange approaches was on receipt of our confirmation letter, which was accompanied by the most unfriendly letter stating payment details. The did have our credit card details and we felt this was unecessary and off-putting. When we commented on this on arrival at reception, we were told that many people 'do not pay'
I believe that the management of the Gleneagle have responded to many previous reviewers recommending they book the Brehon as a more suitable hotel. I believe this to be a bit of a cop-out, rather than telling your customers to look elsewhere, they should look to themselves and smarten up their act.
The hotel is very dated and with that you can expect the dark and dismal decor, but in my opinion no excuse for the lack of attention and care taken in maintaining what poor facilities they have. The bedroom furnishings are shabby and worn, the windows in the room so dirty we could not see outside. The bathroom was shoddy and grubby and the 'shower-curtain' did little to prevent flooding in the bathroom everytime the shower was used. Please, please, please rethink the paper shower mats, I mean seriously do they expect these to be in anyway practical. My two daughters used them to colour on with their markers!!
The wait for breakfast was not ideal but we were very happy with the standard of food and the service staff in the restaurant were good. Again little points like high-chair trays not wiped down could be attended to.
We ate one night in the hotel as this was part of our package, although to be honest would rather have ate out and would have had our youngest daughter not been uwell. The head-waiter was good, friendly and efficient. The rest of the waiting staff were only OK. The food again was good and the children's menu very good with 'healthy options' such as steak/roast of the day etc an excellent addition to the basic nugget & chips options.
Anyway, we will not be returning to the Gleneagle as we do believe it is overpriced and very basic.

Before booking I always check a hotel on trip advisor, this time I didn't and I wished I had.
It was the rally HQ for Rally of the Lakes we have stayed at many rally HQ's in the past and these hotels are usually very good forget this one.
I have contacted the manager twice now for comments once by leaving a customer form on check out and was told I would be contacted and once by direct e-mail to the manager I am still waiting.
We were initially moved as we had been given a room that I had not requested over the telephone having contacted them direct, to a room that was even worse. Forget any views there are carparks and carparks and more carparks, the room and bathroom was dirty, dated, with too many beds in, curtains falling down, no tea making facilities (lame excuse) and the noise at night was rediculous. Both in the corridors, by guests and security and in the adjoining rooms walls must be paper thin.
We also had the fire alarm set off twice one night, a guest thought it was fun!!! We had no appology from any member of staff.
The restaurants- breakfast was worse than canteen food, brown toast asked for was shown to the white toast toasted brown, bistro food overpriced, cold and tasteless, 1 evening meal included again no taste fish dish was dried up on the plate ?how long it had been kept warm.
When we got the bill some items had been duplicated or charged twice with different invoices all within a minute.
We are not fussy people but had paid good money for an inferior product and was so tired due to lack of sleep I just hoped I managed the drive back to the ferry in Dublin and the drive from Holyhead without falling asleep.
I was glad to leave having stayed for 3 nights I hope to be back in Killarney next year for the rally but I will not be staying at the Gleneagles. This hotel is not one of the leading hotels in Ireland if it is then Ireland needs to look at its gradings and regrade this one a 1* or 2* but certainly not 3*.
Staff could also do with some customer service training a smile costs nothing but perhaps they are just always getting unsatisfied guests.

As others have mentoned, this hotel has seen its better days. Today it is downright shabby, the rooms gloomy, and things don't work. On the plus side, the resturants are decent and the staff quite helfpul.
To add insult to injury, when I checked out the hotel converted their euro charge into dollars -- but at their own conversion rate, which was quite unfavorable compared to what I would have gotten on my own credit card. Essentially, they added a sneaky surcharge onto the bill.
I had a few extra days to spend in Killarney and I went down the street to the Riverside Hotel, which was much nicer and cheaper.
