Receptionist's horrible attitude

This is a basic one-star motel, but the receptionist's attitude was no star. When we called from downtown Napa to get directions to the motel, she told us that she didn't know how to get to the motel from where we were! so we ended up going into a store in Napa to ask for directions. When we checked in, her attitude was gruff. ( She does not belong in the hospitality industry; perhaps, a prison guard position would be better for her.)
The room is a 1950s style place with a very basic, but clean bathroom. It is true that you do not control the temperature in the room.
The break fast bar is okay, but be prepared to eat your breakfast in your tiny room because there are no tables. Also search hard for a clean tray to bring your food to the room as most of the trays were full of crumbs, and the cutting board for English muffins, etc. needed cleaning badly. Coffee was good, however.

My sister, adult daughter and I stayed for one night at this motel as we were in town visiting friends and reminiscing as we grew up in Napa. I had a difficult time finding a place to stay as most places required a two night stay for the weekend and we were only staying one night. We paid $165 (ugh!) for a room with 2 double beds...quite possibly a bargain in Napa, but I think I would pay more to stay in a nicer place next time. I don't consider myself picky about motels/hotels...I know all places won't be perfect, so when something isn't quite right, that's fine. But this place didn't even come close to meeting my basic expectations.
Our room was very small and there was barely room between the two double beds that were pushed up against the walls...the room really shouldn't have more than 2 people in it. The bathroom walls had stains on it, the shower didn't have a shower head (and that wasn't noticed until early the next morning and we didn't have time to wait for them to fix it) and the towels were stained and threadbare. Beds were both uncomfortable and we all complained of backaches in the morning...the pillows are completely flat. The a/c blew cold air all night and there was no thermostat. The location isn't bad as it's right at Hwy 29, but we did hear quite a bit of traffic noise and the train passed by twice. The room was so dreary, that after we checked in, we left and stayed out until bedtime...none of us wanted to be there any longer than we had to.
On the upside, this is a pet-friendly motel, so if you have pets, then this might be a place that works for you.

Although the room had quite a lot of wear and tear, it was clean and tidy. I agreed with the other review that the room was a bit warm. I wanted to leave my luggage at the hotel after check out but the clerk said there was no storage space. If you bought some wine, you might want to get a cooler and place it in your car. Overall, this place is all right for someone who does not spend much time at the hotel.
The service was uneven. The first time I called to make a reservation, the phone rang for 5 minutes and no one picked up. When I got through, the clerk voluntarily offered me an AAA discount even without me asking. When I asked for area information, the clerk was totally uninterested in offering advice.

My husband and I stayed for two nights (not our choice, our employer did this through Expedia and paid an outrageous $150 per night + tax ($168). The hotel room is small and smells, HBO (Human Body Odor). The air-condition temperature was controlled by the manager. We came back on Friday evening after working in a trade show to find that the motel room temperature to be warm. I asked the manager to turn the climate control up; she told me that the temperature is already on high. Told her this is ridiculous because it feels like 90 degrees inside the room. The manager then told me to leave instead of trying to solve the problem. The same night we looked at our bed sheets and found dirt and/or little dead bugs and human hair. Since it was midnight and the manager’s office was closed, at this time, we decided to bring this to the manager’s attention next morning. We went to sleep in our clothes lying on top of the bed spread. At 10:20 the following morning we informed the manager of what we saw. She took a short tone with us and told us that she wanted us “out in 5 minutes” and that she would charge us the full 2 days even if we get out before checkout time (11:00 AM) at the end of the first days stay. This is plain thievery and so we insisted that the manager put this in writing, which she did not. So we took two sheets from the maids cart and changed the linens ourselves. Then we went and bought a large can of Lysol and sprayed down every surface in the room which helped somewhat with the order.
I would never stay at this motel if this was a personal vacation and employer should never book their employees here. For $150/night, there are better choices elsewhere. The room was filthy and smelly. The bed-sheet was dirty and the manager was rude and scheming; attempting to cheat us out of what was paid for because of the mere voicing of a valid complaint pertaining to odor in the room and hair and bugs in the bed. This is THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER STAYED IN and I wouldn’t recommend it, except to someone that I didn’t like.

One of the lower rates in Napa but I was a little nervous because of some negative reviews. However, I had a fine stay. The room was clean and neat and the staff was friendly, helpful and accomodating. The breakfast, though continental, was more than I had expected. The temperature (mentioned in one of the negative reviews) was not a problem in November but I could see how the A/C might be a little weak if it were hot out. All in all, I'll stay there again.
