We (my husband, 4 year old, and I) stayed at Peery Hotel April 24-26, and our stay could not have been better. I prefer old historic hotels full of charm and character (which is why I chose this hotel) while my husband prefers new hotels with every amenity you can think of. This hotel was everything I was looking for and my husband was pleased with it, too.
I booked the hotel on the hotel website and then read the reviews and was a little worried because there were so many reviews on how small the rooms were. We had a double queen room and the Peery website says they have 5 of these rooms. We paid $114/night Gov’t Rate plus taxes and parking. We arrived early (about noon) so the room wasn’t made up yet, but the wait was only about 20 minutes and they had the refrigerator we requested in it when we got to the room. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and always remembered my daughter’s name. They have wine/cheese on Wednesday nights, but we arrived on Thursday so we missed that (wish they offered that nightly). They have a business center with one computer/printer, so only one guest at a time can use it. Starbuck’s coffee is in the room and also in the lobby. The lobby was beautifully furnished.
A little about the room………………… our room was very spacious and we had more than enough space. The room had two queen beds, a love seat, a Queen Anne chair, and a small desk/chair. The bathroom, however, was very small and only consisted of a toilet and small shower. The shower was tiny, but my husband is 6’ & 200 lbs and he said the shower was fine with him and he had enough room in it. The pedestal sink is in the bedroom in a little enclave thing (not in the bathroom) with a mirror above it. This was OK with me because the only people seeing me get dressed was my husband and daughter. However, if I were in the dating world or with a group of girlfriends, I wouldn’t want them seeing me dress and put on makeup. There wasn’t enough space for my brushes, makeup, rollers, etc, at the sink, so I placed those on the desk beside the sink. Since other reviews mentioned the noise of the air/heat, I did make note of it. It was a little loud, but not enough to bother me…it was kind of soothing actually. We were right above Macaroni Grill and heard no noise from it nor the rooms adjacent to us. The last day I did hear the water running on the floor above us (a shower or sink running water, I guess). I could hear cars going by from the street below (West Temple), but no problem there because you are downtown. I slept in the last day, and the shades do keep out the light. The pillows were really soft and your head sinks in them so we all needed two pillows each for height. My husband said he had a backache the next morning from the mattress, but I thought it was comfortable. We did have a view of the mountains (past the downtown buildings) from the room.
A little about parking…………we rented a car and when we arrived, we circled trying to decide where to park. We were going to park across the street (Broadway) in the $5/day parking lot that other reviews mentioned. But we noticed there were no in/out privileges so we did not park there. There was a parking lot beside and behind the hotel….this is the hotel parking which is a shared parking lot….it said no in/out privileges too so that threw us off and we parked in the meter parking in front of the hotel. The room was not ready yet (we were early about noon), so we went into Squatters across the street and ate. After eating we had a $10 parking ticket because the meter ran out (I need to mail that in while I’m thinking about it). When checking in, we paid for hotel self parking and you put the parking thing on the dash of the car and you have in/out privileges at $10 day which was definitely worth it. The hotel parking lot is beside and behind the hotel and is very convenient.
A little about eating………….Macaroni Grill is on one side of the hotel and Christopher’s Seafood and Steak House is on the other side. Christopher’s is the hotel restaurant. Across the street (Broadway) is Squatter’s Pub Brewery. We ate at Macaroni Grill for dinner and Squatter’s for lunch. Both were good. We did not get a chance to eat at Christopher’s, but we wanted to. I wanted to also eat the breakfast buffet but didn’t get a chance.
I think that about covers it. The Peery Hotel was everything I was looking for in an old historic hotel and will be the only hotel we will consider for future Salt Lake City trips. I Loved It!!!

I stayed one night at the Peery Hotel on the suggestion of a friend. I booked my room through Hotels.com. There were warning signs that this hotel would be a rip off; sadly, I ignored them in favor of exploring an historic place.
If you cancel your reservation after 12:00 am the day of your stay, they take all your money anyway. And I think they also charge a fee over that!
The lobby is lovely, but the good news stops there. My room was small and dark--a bit spooky. It looked out onto a gravel roof surface that was littered with doggie poo. The windows opened, which is good, but they were very old and anyone could break in if they wanted. The venting system is turbine-engine loud.
There is no free parking. You are offered valet parking at $14, or park it yourself for $10. The lot is across the street, so close you could spit, and the lot by itself is only $5.
There is no breakfast served before 8 am on Saturday---I had to leave the hotel and go elsewhere in order to get back on the road in time. There is no real dining room attached to the hotel, no 24-room service.
Pillows on the bed were nice, but the bed itself was hard as a rock.
The floors are old and creaky---when the person upstairs checked in I heard all the luggage being dragged, boots dropping, water faucets, toilet flushing, etc....and all sounds echo down the halls.

I recently stayed at the Peery Hotel. The hotel was built in 1910 but has been restored and is modern in all conveniences. The room I had was small but adequate. The rooms have coffee makers and TV's. The small bath area is nicely done with a stall shower. The lobby has coffee and papers and a nice seating area while waiting to meet friends. The hotel host and concierge are very friendly and helpful. We were provided very good advice on places to eat. One place was especially nice--the Market Street Grill (one block south) has a great breakfast at a reasonable price with excellent service--I had a great cheese and ham omelet with hash browns and toast for 6.99. A cup of coffee never got more than half empty before a server topped it off. You won't be disappointed.

Great location, exceptionally nice and courteous staff, but beyond that this is just another dressed up old hotel that has seen better days.
The room was extremely small and very loud due to the heating system's charming industrial roar. The vent is about 4 feet from the bed. If you turn it off, you freeze. If you turn it on, you're warm, but you can't sleep so well.
The bathroom was fine, as was the wireless internet. As usual, not enough outlets in the room, so I used my own power strip to plug in everything that needed charging/power.
The staff are great. Very friendly, very helpful and the same applies to the staff of the restaurant next door. The food was decent. Nothing to write home about, but I'd eat there again. I'd rate it above average.
