My husband and I spent 4 days at Relais Borgo Scopeto. We had a marvelous time. We wanted a place in the Chianti region that was not in a large city. Borgo Scopeto fit the bill perfectly. The hotel is about 15 minuts north of Siena in the Chianti hills. Close to wineries in Gaiole in Chianti, Radda in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti. The property is beautifully renovated - very modern rooms. Lovely breakfasts - served outside; dinner served at restaurant on-site.
Other than one person at the reception area that was somewhat cold, every person (reception, servers, bartender) was very friendly.
There are two beautiful pools, two tennis courts and walking trails (very hilly).
The place is somehwat remote so if you go out at night and plan to return after dark, I'd recommend having a GPS system to help you navigate the roads.

Beautiful grounds, Offputting Staff

My husand and I stayed here two nights during our recent trip to Italy. The grounds, accommodations and various buildings are beautiful. While it all looked good on the outside, we were dissappointed for a few reasons: 1) Blood on sheets at night when they turned down bed. When we called, they were rude and resisted at first to send someone to come and bring sheets. When they did come, they were reluctant to change sheets and made my husband help (this hotel cost over $400 USD per night)!! 2) Rude Staff. Seemed that we bothered them terribly when we asked for them to help map out how to get around the area (hotel is ~20 minutes from Sienna, in Chianti area). 3) Terrible internet set up in the room via TV. All in all, the place is really nice, but the staff is not helpful at all.

Tastefully and lovingly renovated ancient monument castle set in own vineyard estate. The main building is the hotel itself and there are a small number of AgriTurismo apartments/cottages within 5 mins walk of the main building. Charming gardens and excellent swimming pools. Meals in the restaurant are delightful and the reception staff friendly and efficient.
The choice is yours to have a totally private stay or drive into Siena (20 mins away by taxi costs around 25 Euros one way). Siena is perhaps the most beautiful and unspoilt heritage centre in Italy. No downside if you have a car, otherwise be resigned to taxis.
We thought it was wonderful!

Borgo Scopeto is like a slice of heaven on earth. The grounds and views from the property are magnificently breathtaking. The decor, level of cleanliness and service are excellent. Our room was large and very comfortable. The decor is the best I have ever seen in any hotel. Everything was new. It was stylish and cozy. We really enjoyed their delicious complimentary breakfast on the terrace overlooking the amazing Tuscan scenery. This is truly one of the best places I have ever stayed at. If you decide to stay here, you are certainly in for a treat from the very start. The property has a stunning tree lined entrance to welcome you. That is just the beginning of what is sure to be an excellent stay.

We stayed at the Borgo Scopeto as part of our Honeymoon tour around Italy and loved it.
Whilst the hotel is on the expensive side, we felt that it was worth every penny as we found the grounds, indoor common areas, dinning room and bedroom to be immaculate. The staff are very pleasant and in either the bar or the dinning room the standard of service is though you are in the Ritz!!
As we were on our Honeymoon we asked for a room upgrade which was granted and the room we got was superb - great views, 2x bathrooms, dressing room, plasma tv with internet acesss and very tastefully furnished.
The food at the Borgo (whilst not cheap) is great and although we had hired a car, we elected to dine at the hotel for 3 of the 4 nights we stayed as the menu and service were so good.
If you want to explore Tuscany the Borgo couldn't be better placed, it's around 5 miles from Sienna and right in the middle of the Chianti region. You may find thought that you'd don't explore as much as you'd planned as we found the grounds and surrounding areas offerd so much to occupy us.
As I say, it isn't the cheapest for accomodation or food but with the Borgo you really do get what you pay for: Luxury throughout, a great location, superb staff & excellent facilities
