Do not dine at the Atlantic Palace

We have just returned from our stay at the Atlantic Palace which we booked with Riviera Travel. We stayed in the annexe which is fairly new and therefore clean and comfortable but faced the road and had no verandah. The public areas are lovely with Murano glass on the walls and ceiling. The staff were all polite and helpful, in fact there were so many waiters at mealtimes that they were falling over themselves to serve. At times we were served by 4 or 5 different waiter at once and found it quite amusing. What wasn't so funny though was the food at dinner; the 'seasonal vegetables' mentioned on the menu usually consisted of half cooked potatoes in various guises which we supplemented with ice-cold carrots and broccolli from the buffet. We love pasta but there was very little on the menu and none of the iced cream that Italy excels at! If we took the fish option it was full of bones and the meat option was usually one small slice of pork or veal. The 'Gala Dinner' on Thursday was no better with no wine provided except a tablespoon of cheap sparkling wine at the end of the meal. Food is very important on holiday so I'm afraid ours was spoiled by this dining experience.

We failed to check with Trip Advisor before booking and were so sorry. I really did not enjoy this hotel. We decided to splash out because I was pregnant and would not be out late so the accomodation was inportant. The exterior of the hotel is much worse than in photos. The whole hotel is so dated and I nearly cried when we got ino our room , so dated and so dark all the time and a view of a brick wall. On the other side of the building you can't really open the windows because of the noise from the busy road. It was not at all whan you would expect for a 4 star I'd give it 2 at a push. I told this to the rep and she said it was standard 4 star for Italy! We paid nearly E850.00 each. The food was horrible, I ordered a ceasar salad for luch it was soggy lettuce covered in soggy bread crumbs disgusting. It is so difficult to get into and out of town and road is so dangerous, no foot path and taxis are so so expensive. There is a bus provided by the hotel but you have to book and book days in advance for weekend nights, and pay. The pool is ok, thats the best I can say.

We stayed in the Atlantic Palace from the 30 May-6th June and had a great time. Do not believe the bad reviews, the hotel is lovely, and the staff could not be more helpful. We had a great room on the 4th floor with balcony and overlooked Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. The public rooms are well decorated and the bar area is great, very cosy yet spacious.
Yes it can be a bit noisy - but show me an Italian road that isn't! Surely thats part of the charm watching the local traffic!
We only had one complaint and that was perhaps the lighting in the bedroom could have been brighter, but apart from that we would certainly stay there again.

Basic but fine

This place does a decent job. We arrived at it without booking in high season and they managed to fit us in with a double room featuring balcony for under £70 per night, which was pretty good. Some rooms will need renovation in the near future - bathrooms are dated and there is no minibar - but overall it is pleasant and well set up for British tourists. The breakfast is plentiful and delicious whilst there is a shuttle bus into the town (which is about 15 minutes’ walk, or five minutes’ drive) every hour until late in the evening. Nearby there is an excellent trattoria serving quality seafood and the like at ridiculously low prices. I’d probably stay here again, but would look first to see what else is available.
only 1 kilometer from centre - but read on

Hotel and service was generally good. It was described as being 1 kilometer walk away from the centre of Sorrento but unfortunately the footpath does not begin until you are about half way into town. The road is narrow and very busy and it is not really advisable to walk particularily after dark. There is a bus service (one euro per trip) but this does not really compensate for the fact that you cannot easily walk anywhere from the hotel.
