Practically the only hotel in Jurmala directly on the beach, and in the best spot around (Majori). Very clean room and bathroom. Very expensive rooms, especially suites and up. Breakfast mediocre in a lousy overcrowded room. Didn't try restaurants - used those on promenada.
You'd find a soviet VIP spirit here: politicians (probably - there were self-confident jerks in business suits) with bodyguards, top-class escorts, mafia-wives in gold and high heels carrying children and lap-dogs, expensive boutiques on site. Overall: good for a short stay. Ah, the SPA is a disaster, and the pool is very overrated. Plus, not free for guests except breakfast time. Tricky? That's what soviet union is.

We had a fantastic time here over Easter. The spa section is world-class; very clean, professional and utterly relaxing. We hardly left the hotel in four days except to take a stroll along the beach in the snow. Very pretty.
We were on a package holiday which gave us food vouchers for the restaurant. There weren't many options on this menu and on the last day we decided to order from the a la carte menu which was much better. Prices were pretty good anyway.
Staff were friendly and helpful, even though they don't always smile much, and we had a lovely time relaxing in the bar between spa treatments.
The level of English competence varied between staff members, but was never a problem.
The only downside was that our session in the Flamingo Relaxation area was ruined by four screaming children splashing in the pool, running in and out of the saunas and steam rooms and generally making a nuisance of themselves. This would have been a lovely relaxing time if they hadn't been there, but as it was I was just annoyed the whole time. I really think this area should be off-limits to children.
Overall one of the best mini-breaks I've ever had. We'll definitely be back to check it out in the summer. Highly recommended.

Swimming pool is musty with a school-marmish overseer ordering you to wear a hair cover - and at that, not free for hotel guests.
Rooms are overpriced and small and the maids had no respect for "do not disturb".
The Italian restaurant was the worst restaurant experience I've had in my life - food was a disaster (my girlfriend said inedible and returned her dish to the kitchen), and the service overtly rude. Complaint about the restaurant the next day got a shoulder-shrug from management.
All in all, a soviet feel with contemptuous staff. No way 5-star!

We stayed at Baltic Beach Hotel for 3 nights in August 2006. Our room was located in the Bismuth section, which wasn't all that luxurious, but we actually had an ocean view!! Bad points were that the room had quite a strange smell, and that the cleaning staff came knocking on the door way too early. The breakfast, on the other hand, was pretty good, and the easy access to the beach was fantastic. Unfortunately, the water was very cold, so we didn't spend too much time on the beach, We had to pay in order to use the indoor pool, which we didn't expect. We ate a dinner at one of the hotel restaurants, but were not all that impressed. Jurmala was a nice little town, but seemed slightly out-of-date. We wouldn't mind going there again, but I think the experience would have been so much better if only the weather had been nicer.
