I am very critical when it comes to cleanliness in hotels. Needless to say, this is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Upon initial glance, the hotel looks nice. But with a closer look, I noticed many things to indicate an unkept room, to include hair all over the bathroom wall, hair in the sheets, toothpaste remnants on the bathroom vanity, unfinished drywall area by the shower. For $175, I would expect more.

We spent two nights/ three days at the Historic Eastland Hotel. The old world charm of the lobby was delightful. Our room was on the 11th floor. It was clean and nicely decorated. The beds were deliciously comfortable with lots of plump pillows. The crisp white duvets were clean and inviting. The bathroom vanity was indeed marble as the hotel proclaims, BUT the tub was small and plastic and didn't drain well~unpleasant. The plush robes were a nice touch, but there were no hooks in the bathroom to hang them or the towels...bummer. The in-room coffee maker is convenient, but with two queen beds and 2 guests we expected more than 1 package of coffee and 1 paper cup.
The hotel is conveniently located to the Old Port and the concierge was more than willing to ferry us around and store our luggage post check-out as we continued to shop and dine. We found wonderful restaurants and the Art Museum is a must. Our package included free breakfast. This was NOT a plus as the scowling, nasty waitress was a rough way to start the day..so snarly. The waiter was equally unpleasant. We suggest taking your breakfast business to the Standard Bakery instead. Try a sticky bun and you will not regret it.

We stayed at this hotel back in November 2007. This was such a beautiful old historic hotel. It has been kept up very well and the historical photographs of the hotel are displayed in the lobby. The rooms were very nice and spacious. Everything was very clean & the staff was friendly. They do have a parking garage attached but they do charge for parking since it's owned by another company. The hotel has a great location downtown which is walking distance to all of the shops/bars/restaurants. There is even a small grocery store within walking distance.
I would definitely stay here again!

We spent three days at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, Maine. This is an older and classy looking building but they have some serious problems. We arrived the weekend of an Anime convention; the entire lobby was full of costumed guests. Some of the costumes were rather scant. This hotel did not seem to be the place for such a convention.
The only polite staff person we found was a second shift housekeeper. The rest of the staff was outright rude. A concierge stood by and watched while I struggled with my bags up the steps into the lobby (how can they get by without a ramp!). Every conversation with the front desk appeared condenscending.
The area of the hotel is questionable and there is graffiti on a wall that appears to be owned by the hotel. This gave a very bad impression.
The room was nice and the place was affordable, relatively speaking. However, we don't plan on returning.

This hotel has a clean room and a clean bathroom. That's all I can say about it. For over $200, I expected more. For half that, I could have stayed 20 miles outside of Portland ... and should have because Portland is extremely easy to drive in and out of ... no traffic snarls to speak of and very good roadways with lots of markings for sites of interest.
They didn't even include a rudimentary American breakfast ... seriously? $200 and you can't even give us some donuts?
And the coffee maker in the room works great ... but only if you want 1 pack of sugar in your coffee. You want 2 and you'll have to call someone or bring your own. Again, if this were a $100 place, I'd understand, but it's TWICE that.
If you have a car, stay outside of town. There's a nice affordable beach community just 25 miles away.
