The room was fairly compact but fine for me. There was plenty of wardrobe space & a good iron/trouser press. The bed was sheets & blankets & very firm (too much so for me) & the pillows rather thin. The bathtub was full size & excellent water pressure. The toilet was very close to the wall & door, so a bit awkward! A very good hospitality tray with cookies & a choice of sparkling & still bottled water. The heating was easily adjusted to suit personal taste. The sound insulation wasn't that good & I would imagine even more noisy at the weekend or if a special event was on. The view just showed the other wall of the hotel . Breakfast time was very busy but the food was well & freshly cooked. The waitress did her best to cope!

A fantastic historic building, the Angel and Royal certainly sells itself as a superior venue and gives itself a heck of a lot to live up to. It almost succeeds.
The building is breathtaking, and the central location very convenient - a good start. Despite travelling alone, I was in the honeymoon suite, which is a fabulous room, in terms of scale and decor, but has an achilles heel - to (presumably) save on the cost of a king-size bed, they've slapped two singles together, with an uncomfortable ridge right down the middle. It doesn't sleep as well as it looks, but it looks very good, and hey, whoever heard of newlyweds actually SLEEPING on their honeymoon night?
The hotel has a policy of no T-shirts, sports tops etc.. in the bar and bistro, which have a great reputation, so I went around the cormer to the Blue Pig pub. No problem with the restrictions, that's the hotel's prerogative, and the food in the pub was exceptional anyway, plus footie on the TV and real ale.... Breakfast was exquisite. No buffet here - all cooked fresh to order!
Niggles notwithstanding, checked out feeling like I'd had a real treat. Recommended.

All I can say is fabulous, me and my Hubby stayed 1 night. The package we had through the Hotel website was sunday night special, and may I say it was well worth every penny.
Our room was out of this world, 4 poster bed, the decor was beautiful, good size and all the added little extras
We where to early to check in so went to a bar called the Atrium which is 2 doors away from the hotel, it was wonderful, lovely food and a good price, lovely decor and live jazz playing in the background, this place is strongly recommended for a visit while in Grantham.

Stayed for one night on 26th Jan. Had a lovely room with a separate sitting room area (TV/DVD in both), with the bathroom off the sitting room. HUGE shower cubicle with massive power shower - bathroom next door looked fairly new too. Nice little touches - tea/coffee facilities with bottles of water, and in the bathroom cotton wool balls and a big jar of bubble bath. It was really quiet too - there was a wedding reception downstairs with noisy disco, but we couldn't hear a thing once in our room. Breakfast in Bertie's was really good too. Staff were really helpful and friendly. It's really quaint too - dates back to 13th Century so low doorways, thick walls, narrow corridors - packed with character. Would definitely recommend it - probably once of the nicest (if not the nicest) hotels I've stayed at in the UK.

The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable and have all the basics you would want. The bathroom was clean and had enough space even though I had a single room; products were ok if you forgot your own.
Food was good and quickly served.
Two points of caution, I stayed during a wedding and it was really loud, if noise bothers you a lot then I would ring and check before booking.
Also I found it really hard to find, ask for directions to the Car park rather than the hotel (it is on a different street) and use them on your route finder. The staff were really good at talking me in after I have been round the one way system 3 times but it would have been quicker to have had a decent map. The hotels website is not hot on directions.
