We just got back from a 6 night stay at Disneyland and we had such a great time!
The night we arrived, our plane was delayed two times and then we had to get our rental car at two in the morning. The "kid" at the rental office gave us the wrong direction and we were lost for about 40 additional minutes. we called Disney directly and they got us to the hotel. It was well past 3 in the morning and the clerk was so accomodating. What ever we requested, we got.
From past reviews that I read I was little nervous about the standard room fitting a family of 5 but it was fine. It was a clean too. there was a dance competition there but we were only aware of it when we saw the girls with their costumes on. We never heard noises that went on for more than one minute, an occasional child running down the hallway - maybe.
The pool was crowded but if you didn't like that there was another one near the workout room. Goofy's kitchen was great and so was the food. I have no complaints about Disney or the resort. If we didn't live 3,000 miles away, we would return again in the near future.

We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel July 14-17. The room was large and nice, with the exception of the bathroom faucet which looked like it had corrosion on it, and the view which was partially obstructed by an outdoor elavator shaft.
The staff was nice, however we had a huge complaint. The one time (over 3 days) we could actually get a seat at the Neverland Pool (which is nowhere near as large as the website makes it appears), some person decided to use the pool as a toliet, not once, but 2 times. No sooner did the pool reopen, in 15 minutes it was shut again because of the same issue. Evidently, it happened the day before we got there. Also, could not get in the hot tub as it was constantly filled with young children, even though the sign prohibits them. The Disney folks who work the pool area need to make people follow thier rule (i.e special diapers, no young kids in the hot tub etc.)
For $300 a night, plus a RESORT FEE, the least they can do is ensure you can use the pool once in a while. I requested a refund on the resort fee, but was told they would note our account for a manager to review, and given a couple of pins.
Again, the rooms were good, but the recreation needs a big improvement. Not enough pool area (i.e. pool and decking) for a hotel of that size. The folks in Anaheim need to go get training in Orlando to see how a resort should operate.

Having stayed at Disney World recently, now I have something to compare Disneyland and the Disneyland Hotel too. I must say that the best experience that we have had was at the Disneyland Hotel (out of all the Disney properties we have stayed at). It's a charming hotel with a great swimming pool. When we stayed, we were give complementary cookies and milk because my husband had just returned from a deployment. The rooms give you a real sense of privacy and quiet. We were lucky to have a room with sliding doors that opened up into the Downtown Disney area. We were able to put the children to bed, and listen to the bands playing outside from our room. When the room was completely dark, you could see the glowing Pixie Dust on the walls and ceilings. The children found this really magical. With California's great weather, we were out in the parks quite a bit, but at the end of the day the walk through Downtown Disney to our hotel was really neat. Even though Disneyland lacks Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, it does have California Adventure. The two parks are better laid out, which leads to a more relaxing vacation. You can walk from one to the other, versus all the messy transportation issues in Disney World. Also, we were not pushed or shoved by anyone to include tourists. For some reason it's a more polite atmosphere than Disney World. Our trip to Disneyland has been our best vacation the the US so far. Would highly recommend this experience over Disney World. You feel like it's what a Disney vacation should be.

I just read a review where the writer complained that she expected more for $300 a night. Disneyland is a hot tourist destintation, and not a hotel in Middle America. Sure, one can get a room for $300 a night at the Ritz Carlton in St. Louis and be wowed by 1st class service and room decorations, but what is the demand for that? If a one night stay at a Holiday Inn in Midtown Manhattan costs around $250, what do you expect Disney to charge? Location and demand are everything.
Also, think about what things cost. For example, my husband and I took our friend's two kids to dinner (pizza) and an Imax Movie last night. We spent about $100 bucks for everything including food at the movie and games in the theater lobby. $100 is more than a one day Park Hopper ticket at Disneyland.
I have stayed at the Disneyland Hotel over 6 times during the past decade, and I have never been disappointed. Our rooms were always neat and tidy. Housekeeping always gives us extra towels. I have never stayed in a room that looks old and shabby -everything is always great.
The best part of the Disneyland Hotel is its proximity to the theme parks. I love that I can be at the front gates within ten minutes. Whereas in Disney World one spends a lot of time on buses getting from destination to destination unless you pay the big bucks to stay at a Monorail hotel. When we go to Disney World, we always rent a car so we are not at the mercy of the buses, but at Disneyland we don't need this extra expense.
The Disneyland Hotel is a great value - it is clean and charming and within easy walking distance of the parks.
