I stayed at the Cosmos for 2 nights for the Champions League Final.
Although I didn't spend much time in the hotel, when I was there it wasn't the best experience.
The rooms were basic but clean, they didn't let much light in but were adequate. Every time you wanted to go up to your room, you had to show your room pass to get through. If you didn't have it on you, that was it no access. You have to queue up at the constantly busy reception desk to get another one - very frustrating!
There are a few restaurants & cafes within the hotel. The food was nice, but the service was terrible. I waited almost an hour to get served after hassling about 4 waitresses to come over and take my order. Then had to wait even longer for the food to come out. The prices are ridiculous for drinks and food - not sure if they upped the prices for the football contingent though!
After a certain time at night the hotel lobby is visited by prostitutes that hang around aimlessly and wait for business. A few of my male friends were propositioned - bit annoying when you are trying to have a drink and a laugh in the bar.
The metro is about a 5 minute walk and is about a 20 ride to red square. It is rather complicated to work out at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. Don't try and ask any locals for directions or help as you will get blanked. Most russians we spoke to for help were extremely rude, including the police!
Overall, the hotel is ok for a few days, but I wouldn't stay there much longer! Russia is such an expensive city, and it wasn't just the hotel bar that charged over the odds.

Although the hotel was clean and tidy it was so vast when you walked into the reception area you were transported into an airport lounge.
Don't book this hotel if you can't use the Metro because it is about 11k from the city centre.
Good for a week-end break but no more!
It's vast.

Well, I have been booked in Cosmos by my travel agency. I read many comments about this Hotel, and I was a little "afraid" before entering my room.
Well, I was right.. Cosmos Hotel is an "old style" building, built in 1980 and showing the passed time in all its corners.
Rooms are small, with very old style furnitures, and the carpet destroyed by the yearly guest's walking.
Location is a little away from the city center, 20 minutes by car in non-pick hours.. but even 50 minutes if you move in the Moscow traffic jam.
As usual, my Like/dislike:
LIKE
Price: for being in Moscow, the price was interesting (not cheap, but interesting).. maybe now I understand why..
DISLIKE
Reception: Receptionists were just average, not helping me in the only two things i have asked (power adapter and hotel transfer).
Restaurants: Bars and restaurants are overpriced, with low quality food. The self-service was probably the "best" restaurant in recycle last day dishes..
Temperature: Air condition and heating is centralized, so I had to keep the window open to let some fresh air enter in my too warm room.
Bed: it was really uncomfortable.. I'm not use to have problem with that, but I really found difficult to fall asleep
Cleanness: ash was on the carpet in different part of the room..
Internet: even if hosting Business travelers, this Hotel cannot offer Internet connection from the room (except a dial-up connection - not even a LAN one). Wi-fi only in the Hall..
Probably a higher rate (and better room) would have resulted in a better stay.. but, in my opinion, this Hotel doesn't worth the money, especially if you can spend a little more but sleep in a more modern hotel in the center of the city.
