Great experience at Hotel Diamond

We found the Hotel Diamond online and stayed there on our way back to San Francisco from Lassen Volcanic Park. This hotel is a gem--also, the town of Chico is under-recognized as a good tourist stop; it's a lot of fun-- despite the comment from a waitstaffperson at a local restaurant -- You live in New York City--WHY are you here?--- and a California friend who said, Chico, WTF? The hotel is restored beautifully, rooms are very comfortable and you get a great supposedly continental, but in actuality full, breakfast thrown in (since when are freshly made omelets part of a "continental breakfast"?). The road down from Lassen was gorgeous (even with the wildfire activity and smoke). And the Sierra Nevada brewery should not be missed. For a great meal, try Christian Michaels.

This is a very nice hotel and the staff is excellent. We had a small problem, we booked a special package for the month of May that included the room, a $75 gift certificate at the restaurant and a house bottle of wine. They called me that morning to tell me that the restaurant had decided to close for dinner on Mother's Day, offered us a room upgrade and a welcome basket, I said I would talk to them when we got there. Well, when we got there my husband said just take the $75 off the room and that would be fine with us, well they did that plus gave us the upgrade et al. Terrific service and I felt they went out of their way to make up for the lack of notice. The bed was a bit soft and kinda sagged in the middle, but would be fine for most people (I have a bad hip). We would probably stay there again

This a wonderful, old hotel in the heart of Chico. We were in a junior suite (#302) and the room was large and very well appointed with Victorian accents. But there is a mini-fridge, robes, slippers, AC, ceiling lighting on dimmers, and a large bathroom with old-fashioned black and white floor tile. Staff were very pleasant. A very enjoyable experience. We highly recommend the Hotel Diamond.
