We are a well travelled couple, and, I have to admit, rather particular when it comes to our hotel choices. With that in mind the end result of our recent 3 night weekend stay at Hotel Lindrum was a split decision - between Above Average & Excellent!
Booking direct we paid $300 per night for a deluxe room at the front of the hotel (chosen after reading trip advisor reviews concerning limited light in smaller rooms) that included full breakfast. We were certainly not disappointed. The room was large, light and beautifully appointed. Words to describe the comfort of the queen bed fail me!
Breakfast in the chic Felt dining room was delicious - a combination of a la carte and buffet, which leaves those stodgy, overheated hotel buffets in its wake.
Little touches like bath robes, in room cd and dvd libraries made the experience on returning to our room all the more memorable.
So, why it was a split decision? Just a couple of small things. Towels in bathroom could have been more plentiful and newer, while service at front desk and in restaurant was a little, umm, impersonal. Job was always done, and all additional requests met, but perhaps if we had one recommendation it would be that the staff project a little more of the same warmth and personality as the Lindrum itself.
Highly recommended.

The Lindrum is a very good boutique hotel in the center of Melbourne. The hotel staff was nice and accommodating. We booked a 3-night stay in a Deluxe Room, which included breakfast each morning. The breakfast included was quite good and a value. The lobby was small with an urban chic d?cor and a pool table & bar area with fireplace.
The room had very large windows with a view of Melbourne. Having read the reviews, I chose to book the deluxe room (with windows + a view), which was a good choice. The room only had a queen bed though, and it was not possible for us to book a double/twin Deluxe room, so we had to get a cot in order to have separate beds (my mom and I don’t share a queen size bed too well). The room was large enough to accommodate the cot and still have room to walk around (although we did get a bit creative). The room d?cor was modern and clean-lined and well designed. It was spotless and the mini bar well stocked, the TV was good size, but the volume was a bit out of sync.
Likewise, the bathroom was also modern and well spaced. The shower had nice pressure and the optional overhead ‘rain shower’ was a nice touch. The water did get all over the bathroom floor though. The counter/storage space was OK, but we could have used a bit more. The bath products were exceptionally nice.
On the negative side, the hotel is quite small & you could hear the other guests in the hallway, doors slamming and the staff setting up breakfast downstairs. That happens at smaller hotels where the guest doors can be in very close proximity. Our door was right next to 3 other doors, which added to the noise. On a positive note, when we needed to use a computer they loaned us a laptop to use in the comfort of our room, which was very appreciated.
Overall good experience.

Another trip to Melbourne, another hotel, and this one is very pleasant indeed. Having read the reviews on this site previously, we did as recommended and booked one of the rooms facing the front of the building, and were very pleased we did. Although we never pick hotel rooms for the view, having a room which has plenty of natural daylight is a major plus for us. There was nothing significant to dislike and plenty to like about this hotel. Free internet is a major bonus (and so unusual for Australian hotels), and the subsidised parking for next door also kept the cost under control. Since we booked a weekend package that included breakfast, that kept the costs down to a very reasonable level for what's on offer. The previous week I had stayed at another Melbourne hotel with a more spectacular view and a significantly cheaper room rate, but once you added in the substantial internet, parking and breakfast costs of the other establishment, the extra cost for the Lindrum became just a small increment, and one that brought a good deal more style and panache with it. The only warning that is worth making is that if you are arriving at the hotel in your own car, don't expect a convenient porte-cochere or other arrangement to let you stop your car easily while you check-in. Best to pull into the car-park that is adjacent to the hotel (which you will get to first, if you're driving on the same side of Flinders St as the hotel), park, and take yourself and your luggage to the hotel from there. There is noone waiting outside the hotel in any case to assist with luggage, although I'm sure they would send someone out to help you if that was needed. The continental breakfast gets special mention for its variety and quality, given there is not a huge selection. What is available, however, is well-chosen and well-presented. Would happily return to the Lindrum for future visits.

Hotel Lindrum is a small "boutique" hotel, very well located for both the city of Melbourne and the famous sporting venues that this city has to offer. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were modern and well decorated and bathrooms well appointed with good toiletries. My only issue is that unless you have a room facing the front of the hotel, the bedrooms are very dark as the rooms on the side almost touch the buildings to either side of the hotel. The trendy but dark brown decor did nothing to help this gloomy appearance. My husband had to go down to reception each morning to check the weather, so we could decide on suitable clothing! Stayed room only and did not eat in the hotel, although the small restaurant seemed popular, particularly at breakfast time.
