my family of 4 and i stayed here about 5 years ago, in the 'luxe' suite... our room was HUGE compared to most hotels i've stayed in, even in north america where everything is supposedly much more spaced out than in europe. Even though sleeping arrangements were 'unique' (in our suite, in additon to the queen bed and sofa, we had two armchairs that we would pull together to form a makeshift bed in order to have enough sleeping places for our entire party), we still enjoyed coming home to our hotel for those 5 days, since our room was nice and spacious, the washroom had heated towel racks which was a nice touch, and the decor was pleasant.
the location was 'ok'- it was a good 20 minute walk from the city centre... about a half hour from the hermitage. the breakfast was good, though all of the packaged foods (such as the yogourt and sugar packets) didn't have any english labels and the staff couldn't help to translate since their english wasn't that steller either... one time at breakfast, there was a man eating behind me who was a diabetic and wanted to know whether the yogourt was sugarfree or not.. since i am fluent in reading and speaking russian i helped him out a lot more than the barely bilingual staff could (they couldn't understand what the man meant by 'sugarfree').
generally i found this hotel pleasant and i WOULD come back again... just make sure you have a basic knowledge of russian before coming to this hotel, and even this city! most locals know only broken english are are much more willing to help you if approached in their own native language. safe travels!
Ok but .....

Lovely big room for our party of 4. The bathroom is excellent and the room was spacious and relaxing. Location as the name suggests is on a junction of a number of roads and so traffic noise was a problem at times. Our room was above the restaurant and on the Saturday night there was a wedding - the noise built until after midnight when all hell broke loose. We asked when it would stop and the desk staff who were clearly mocking me in Russian could not give a damn. Their attitude throughout our stay was surly and unhelpful. Breakfast was ok and the buffet was restocked generally. We used the restaurant once - but never again. My gnochhi with spinach was stone cold and when it was returned it was the same dish just microwaved - very unappetising. Service was slow by Russian standards and wanting our bed we left without a dessert.
At the price the room was very good but the hotel needs to get a grip of its staff to ensure guests are treated with respect and courtesy.
