Not a good place to stay

Hotel extremely difficult to find, located in a dark and dingy back street. As a female on her own I was extremely concerned about being unable to unload luggage and found it most difficult to have to park two streets away and lug cases round manually to a very insignificant entrance. No lift and no assistance with luggage therefore definately not suitable for anyone less able bodied. Nightclub and revellers very noisy. Most unimpressive reception area again in need of refurbishment - breakfast reasonable but would have apprciated a little less 'friendliness' from the cook. Will certainly not be returning to this hotel.

I stayed in this hotel recently with three colleagues when we visited Glasgow for a conference. We were pleasantly surprised when we first arrived, the rooms were basic but clean and tidy and the staff were friendly. HOWEVER all of our rooms were situated on the side of the hotel that is immediately opposite a nightclub. On the first night of our stay (a Sunday) the club was open until gone 3 in the morning, the glass in the windows is so thin that we may as well have been inside the nightclub itself it was so noisy. When the club closed people crowded in the streets outside and sang, sreamed and screached at the tops of their voices until the street cleaners moved them on at gone 5 o'clock in the morning. None of us got more than an hours sleep that night. When we complained to the staff were told that we should expect the noise in "a vibrant city like Glasgow" and what we might call "[--] noisy they would call exuberance" comments that we felt were entirely rude and unwarranted as not one of us had sworn during our complaint. No apology whatsoever was given for our complete lack of sleep.
In addition to this I burnt my finger on the hot water in the room and nearly electricuted myself when I plugged my hair straighteners into a faulty plug socket.
The breakfast was good, although the chef is rather enthusiatic, and thankfully the noise from the nightclub was not so bad on the following two nights. But I would never stay there again and if I had not been on a work trip I would have left on the first night.

As this was my first time in Glasgow I was helped by the Hotel staff even before I got there. The lovely woman on the phone gave me brilliant directions, leading me to avoid the one way system. The hotel also have a deal with the car park down the street so you only have to pay £6 for 24 hours!
Lovely atmosphere when you arrive, staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are exaxctly what you pay for. Yes the beds were slightly uncomfortable but the hotel is due to be refurbished. I was slightly cold one night and reception gave me heaters and extra blankets, even brought them to my room!
All of those who have complained about the noise, welcome to a city centre. The hotel is right in the middle of it all, and no matter how much cash you pay, the noise will not go away. Its a city centre, get used to it or go to a nice little hotel somewhere in the country!
Breakfast was nice, the chef was more than helpful and the staff were always about to clear up after you.
It was well worth the money and i would certainly recommened it to anyone else!

What a dreadful place, it was cold, the shower was mouldy. The staff were the most unhelpful people I have ever come across. The breakfast room was chaotic - a youth hostel would have been better. The food was virtually inedible. You made your own tea with water from a flask, the toaster spat out sparks, the cook was unshaven... get the picture.

Booked this hotel for 2 nights before reading reviews here. As most of them were terrible we were worried about mour stay, how wrong could they be!!!!
For a start it isnt the ritz but then i didn't pay ritz prices. It was very clean, very friendly and very comfortable. As for the noise iwe had a room on the first floor directly opposite the night club and even being a poor sleeper i was not wakened during the night. The criticisms of the breakfast are unfounded, if you left the dining room hungry it was your own fault. The quality of food was quite acceptable and freshly cooked, ok the chef was perhaps a little over the top especially when you had a hang over but a couple of elderly ladies staying there thought he was wonderfully attentive and helpfull. The room itself was clean airy and the bed comfortable ok the tv remote didnt work but we didnt go to glasgow to watch tv. The wardrobe space was limited but overall we had a wonderful stay and would certainly go back without hesitation. Thank you to all the staff who mad our stay very enjoyable.
