Perfect location on edge of park with views across to Vatican. Very friendly and helpful reception. Gret breakfast room on top floor looking over park. Very close to Spanish steps and local restuarants. Upgraded our room simply because one was available.

Stayed for 5 nights at the Eliseo and enjoyed it very much. Room was medium sized, not exactly glamorous but clean. Lack of drawer space for 2 people. Very firm beds (twins bolted together). Double glazing and internal plus external shutters, nets and very heavy curtains made for a dark & very quiet night. Great bathroom with very good shower, though no bath. Fully functioning and seemingly brand new electronic safe in wardrobe. Breakfast was an 8 out of 10; 3 different meats, 2 cheeses, hard boiled eggs, fruit, bread and warm pastries. Would agree with previous reviewers that the 116 bus is brilliant and goes all the way through the back streets to Camp d'Fiori, then the river. The night version runs til 1.30am. Whilst the Metro entrance is very near the hotel the actual platforms are not, so it's quite a walk via the subway - but there is a useful supermarket en route. There are more central hotels but we enjoyed the park and would say the rates are excellent value.

The Hotel Elisco has a great location, but needs updating. We stayed in the first floor, so walking up the stairs was fine. Unfortunately, one of our rooms lacked double glazing, and the trash is picked up in Rome around 4AM. The rooms were generally OK, but needed new wall paper and repairs. Our room had the closet doors staying up by habit. The roof top breakfast room was great, with wonderful views. You could see all over Rome. The best thing about it's location was that the little electric 116 bus stops just outside the door. This bus is a gem. It travels through some back streets, and you get to see the real Rome. It's route brings you close to the Spanish Steps, Travi Fountain (you have to know where to get off because you never see them from the bus) and the Vatican.

We were a little cautious about the Eliseo after reading some of the more negative reviews on this site. However, we found the room clean and spacious and the hotel staff unfailingly friendly and eager to help. The hotel is in a great location for visiting places like the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain- it's also right next to the Villa Borghese which is gorgeous and offers a bit of a relaxing haven after some of the more frenetic tourist traps of central Rome in (an extremely hot) August.
