I am very conflicted on how to review this hotel. My wife and I stayed there for 8 nights earlier this month. To borrow from earlier reviews, the best format will be in pros and cons:
Pros
--The room and bathroom were clean and tidied up nicely each day when we returned from our travels.
--The hotel is very convenient to the metro, which is a two minute walk from the hotel front if you turn right and take an immediate left and cut through the neighboring piazza.
--I am not sure if it is different in July, but we did not experience the same "issues" others spoke of on air conditioning. Our room was set to 25 C which translates to 77 F. This may not be freezing like some people keep their homes, but it is certainly not uncomfortable.
Cons
--The breakfast is simply awful. Juices and coffee come from a machine and the coffee in particular is undrinkable. This is coming from a certified coffee addict. Some freeze-dried Taster's Choice would have been better (anyone get the reference?). You are better off going down the corner and spending 5-6 Euro on a couple espressos and pastries.
--The staff is unbelievably rude. As an American, I often despise our customer service-oriented culture. However, I came to find that when at our hotel I was missing that service. I kept thinking, "am I not paying you for this experience?" The breakfast staff looked miserable, the maids looked at you with a mixture of skepticism and disdain and the front desk...the most important part...was flat-out rude. The most comical experience was when we checked out. The front desk clerk, a blond woman who's name for the life of me I cannot remember, asked if we had anything from the minibar. I explained we had one water and promptly handed her a 5 Euro bill. She thrusted change in to my hand and turned away. I stood there for a couple seconds in awkward silence waiting for a thank you or receipt of some kind for our 8 night stay. She looked up about a minute later, miffed at why I was still there. I asked if there was anything else I needed to do to check out and she issued a terse "No!" and turned away again. So let me get this straight. I just spent hundreds of dollars at your establishment over the course of 8 nights, never complained about anything or asked for any assistance the whole time I was there. This is how I get treated? I wasn't expecting a red carpet exit, just simple manners. I guess the service in the States isn't so bad after all!
--The only negative about the cleanliness of the room was the bed comforter, which was stained and had a strange smell. It was clear that it had not been cleaned recently and was not changed between guests. Of course it was summer and we didn't even need to use it...this may be an issue in cool months!
--The hotel is noisy and I took a previous reviewer's advise and wore ear plugs. You can hear people in rooms around you and the traffic/construction is deafening from 6:45am onward. One happy morning it sounded as if a construction crew was throwing scrap metal down several stories in to a metal bin. I was almost ready to look for a bomb shelter!
--The hotel offers a "wake-up" service on their in-room television. This is comical and you have to see it to believe it. You set the time you want to wake up. When that time arrives, the tv turns on at a barely audible decibel level for less than two seconds. It then goes to a blue screen and falls silent. Suffice it to say, unless the tv is sitting suspended above you an inch or two while you are sleeping, this is not a wake-up service! On that note...
--There is no alarm clock in the room and utilize the front desk for wake-up calls at your peril. We asked for one 4 times over the course of our 8 nights and only received a 50% success rate. I strongly suggest you purchase a 12-13 euro travel alarm clock at the Kodak store a couple blocks away or have a watch with an alarm function. The last thing you need is to miss your flight home because the afore-mentioned "splendid" staff forgot to wake you up!
All in all, a wonderful experience in Rome and I guess this hotel has two stars for a reason. I was a little surprised by how well it was reviewed and that was the main reason why we booked there. Would I recommend it? If you are planning to utilize the Metro (believe me, you really should as it is an invaluable way to tour Rome) then yes. If not, pick somewhere else. What the hotel does not tell you is that if you do plan to walk, it is uphill on the way back in all directions you choose to come. This makes for an interesting trek after a long day of sightseeing. I hope this review helps!

A good surprise when we arrived was that the room and bathroom were bigger that in any other 3 star we have stayed in Italy. The room was facing the street and there is no double glaze window so there was a tolerable street noise that did not prevent us from sleeping soundly. The room was clean, only problem was the supposedly queen size bed which was in fact two singles joined. They kept separating all the time which was a little unconfortable.
You should know that the hotel is not within walking distance to the main attractions, but I already knew that, and preferred to be closer to Termini for better transportation choices. The area is very safe during the day but a bit deserted at night and the walk between Termini and Reppublica should be avoided. At night is better to approach the hotel from via Cavour or Nazionale and not from Piazza Repubblica.
Regarding breakfast, I can see why some might dislike it, but we are used to continental so it was more than ok for us.
The old elevator is a problem if your are in a hurry and in the upper floors, but it works.
All in all, a bit expensive for what it is, but that is a problem of the whole city.

After reading several reviews we settled on this hotel for our 1st wedding anniversary. What a disappointment.
The 1st room we were given was tiny and dark with the window opening out onto some scaffolding which was down most of the hotel. Upon request we were moved to a room from which we could actually look out of the window, which was happily also slightly bigger. The room appeared clean but we found several stray dark hairs on the bed and in the shower.
It has to be the noisiest hotel we have stayed in - there was building work taking place both on the hotel and on surrounding buildings which resulted in us being woken by angle grinders, drills and the like most mornings. If it wasn;t this, it was car alarms going off, thin ceilings/walls between rooms or the noisy air con that kept us awake.
The location wasn't great either - the distances given were that it was about 800 m away from major sights including the colosseum - it was more like 1.7 km - and we know as we had a pedometer!
The breakfast was a very poor choice - a choice of 2 cereals - cornflakes or cocoa pops or cake, buns, sweet bread and sugar encrusted pastries - so fine if you havev a sweet tooth but not so good if you want something a bit plainer or savoury. Dreadful tea and coffee from a machine plus sweet fruit squash (also from a machine) as opposed to fresh juice.
We came home one night to find broken glass in the entrance of our room from a broken light fitting in the corridor outside. After telling the receoption staff about this twice, it was still not cleaned away - not great if you think we could have easily sliced our feet open.
Also, the lift, albeit quaint, from the turn of the century, was totally impractical for a modern hotel, it would only function if the door was closed by the last person using it, which most guests frequently forgot to do.
So, all in all, one of the worst hotels we have stayed in!

5mins from train station which is good as taxi's are expensive. Good welcome at reception - Sylvia was excellent and gave us pleny of infomation. Breakfast not our style at all. Very sweet cakes and doughnuts and no bread and terrible coffee - Yuk!although the juice was good. Our room had no outlook and was in the 'new' back area of the building. It was also tiny, bed firm but comfy but pillow's like boards and we asked 2 days running for an extra one but it didn't appear. The bathroom was very nice with lots of hot water and nicely appointed. By the way there are 2 lifts in the building. One from the reception and one down the hall through the door near the bar which is not a real bar, just a nice dresser with some bottles on it and we didn't see anyone actually having a drink. The reception was quite nice with old style Italian couches and chairs and quite comfortable in the air con to sit and have a read before heading out. We stayed 3 days and thought it was okay but too expensive for what it is.
