We stayed at a single bedroom apartment at Quest on Lonsdale, for a week. Worth the price we paid-$145 per night.
Found the staff and management to be friendly. No restaurant or cafe within the hotel, however many to choose from within the vicinity of the hotel.
The hotel was being painted while we were staying there. So we could smell the freshly painted walls. Meanwhile, road constructions were taking place downstairs, which was loud and annoying.
Apartment size was big, with pleasant earthy tones. With a separate bedroom area, it gave it a homely feel. All cooking necessities were available, the dining table and lounge table were big enough to eat on. Plasma TV was big- looked like a 42". The bedroom was right next to the steel-caged balcony (full of cigarette butts under the grill type floor footing), and was separated from the rest of the apartment, from sliding doors.
There were a few problems- Walls were not sound proof. We could hear people from the next room. The balcony doors could not be left open because they slam against the balcony, and would probably shatter if left open by accident! Also, when they are shut, cold air gets through, and you hear a whistling noise.
Cleaning service sucked! Dishes were left unwashed, carpet was not vacumed, floors not cleaned, beds poorly made. They also forgot to leave shampoos, conditioners and soaps.
P.S- The lift should come with a warning, as it was very oooooold and sloooooow- and scaaaaaaaary!

I booked a two bedroom apartment for an overnight stay at this hotel for 5 people. Booking was easy and an email confirmation was appreciated.
Upon arrival check in was easy and a pleasant experience. The apartment itself was a little smaller than I’d expected but certainly had enough space for the 5 of us to sit around have a meal and a chat. The decor was modern and very nice – certainly had a more upmarket feeling than I had expected for the price.
In terms of amenities the apartment certainly had everything you’d need and expect from self contained accomodation. The rooms were clean (aside form a little mildew on the grout in the bathroom) and the location is very central to the top end (the “Paris” end) of the city including many excellent restaurants and stage shows.
Car parking was next door in a standard city carpark – which was fine although I’m not sure I’d like to be walking through there as a solo female late at night.
We paid 220 for an overnight stay – which between 5 of us was very economical.
Overall I’d certainly recommend this as clean, cheap basic accommodation in a central area of town and will certainly be staying there again.

Our family of six booked two rooms from 27/12 to 31/12. These rooms were booked in November, and it was confirmed to myself that these will include a double bed and a sofa bed,and priced accordingly.
When we arrived, we checked in with no incidents, until we entered the room and my sister said the sofa is definitely just a sofa, not a bed. I then went to reception and the man there merely said "I'm sorry, but there is nothing I can do because all the rooms are booked out, and I have run out of trolley beds" I said that when I booked I specifically said that there will be three people in each room. He said that they have literally taken over the management of the hotel and the previous owners left insufficient information regarding the bookings (??). I then requested late checkout on the last day and this was granted.
That night we ended up moving the mattress onto the floor of the living room so that a person can sleep there, then the other two people (one of them being my 95 year old granmother) slept on the base of the bed. DO NOT ever try this - it's the worse night sleep you'll ever get - you might as well just sleep on the carpet!
The next day I went and spoke to another lady at reception, who managed to secure a two bedroom for us for the next two days - I was so grateful (!!). I then reconfirmed that (a) there will be no charge for this (b) i can still check out late on 31/12
Imagine my surprise, when on 31/12, on a passing query, I was then informed that we can't have late checkout and that we need to checkout by midday. I then said to them, that if I hadn't asked, we would have stayed in our room till 4PM, then you will charge me the price of a night's accomodation. This person said nothing and by then I had no patience for these people anymore, so my brother took over the negotiations, and finally they did a u-turn and decided to let us check out at 4PM.
Hopefully this really was because they have just taken over the management of the property, but the difference in service from the diffferent people working at reception does make me wonder.
So.... the pros and cons of this place:
Pros
close proximity to city attractions
rooms are quite spacious
Cons
inconsistent customer service
rooms facing the street are very noisy, if facing the other way it's a rubbish dump
instructions on how to turn the stove on would be useful (could not turn it on the first day - turns out a switch, not anywhere near the stove, had to be turned on first).

on arrival the usual pleasantries are exchanged as well as your credit card details. I was aware of the cost of the room but was not told of the $100 bond by anyone at either the time I booked, some four months earlier, or on the day I confirmed the booking close to the arrival day.
The room was lovely wonderfully quiet even though been on a busy road. The spa was sublime and much appreciated.
I checked out the following day and it wasn't till a day or so later I realised my banking wasn't balancing what they hadn't told me was they kept your $100 bond for ten days. Just make sure you don't need the $100 on your holiday.
