This is a little similar to the Arizona Inn except for a couple of things. One, it is much cheaper. Two, the decor in the rooms is different. Three, the breakfast menu is pretty limited, although I love their bacon. Four, the shower is better. And last but not least, it is positioned on a major street. (The Arizona Inn is on a small street). It's basically the Arizona Inn's equvalent of Diet Coke. If saving money is your gig, this is a great place to stay. If you want more luxuries at a higher price, then stay at the Arizona Inn. It's nicer. Still, this spot is a very good hotel. 4 out of 5 for me.

I got such a great deal on this hotel; I didn't pay attention to the reviews about the construction, but it was a little disturbing when we arrived. Not to worry, though. The room (#20) was beautiful and the courtyard outside the room was quiet and very pretty. Tile and beams in the room were gorgeous. Closet was impressively large, as was the room. The construction didn't bother us in the evening or at night. Early in the morning, we could heard the birds outside. Overall a good stay and a good location for us.

It's true, it is under construction and, while the construction isn't actually going on over the weekends, you can't get away from it. The construction site runs runs right up to the pool, right up to the restaurant, right out to the street (eliminating any pavement in the parking lot). Essentially, if you're not in your room, you are looking at the construction. That said, the room was WONDERFUL! Big, fresh, clean, comfortable. . . if only we had come to enjoy a weekend inside!

The lodge on the Desert is currently under going some welcome new additions. I will be honest in saying that at first I was nervous about staying at the hotel with construction next door but the staff was so wonderful that they made my vacation worth it! The service from the hotel and restaurant staff goes way above and beyond the concept of “Great” service. I felt as if though I were a guest in someone’s own home instead of a hotel.
For example, the front desk staff gave us wonderful and thoughtful suggestions to local eateries and events. (However the food at the Lodge is amazing and very affordable.) The staff always remembered our names and asked how the dinner was or ball game we went too that day. I want to honor them by remembering their names: Cassandra and Limpo were thoughtful and nice and every day extended to us the kind of service you don’t find anymore.
I forgot all about the construction and just enjoyed the quite in the evenings and fragrant flowers outside our room. The beds are sublime and you sink into them and fall asleep immediately. I recommend this hotel to anyone… if they can overlook the construction they will see a gem of Tucson and know that the renovations that the hotel is making are to improve the hotel and make it even better.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Lodge in early March, 2008. We were upgraded to a bigger room (#60) when we arrived, which was a spacious one bedroom with sitting area and huge bathroom. The room was nice and the grounds/courtyards were quite charming. You really get the adobe feel in this place.
There were a few issues, mostly related to the construction going on next door. The Hotel is more than doubling in size. Several mornings we had an interuption in water, and for ice we had to go to the restaurant, but is was right on site. (BTW, we enjoyed the food there and the wait staff was very friendly).
Althoug the hotel is "worn" in a few places and you'll see some chipped paint and wall cracks here and there, we really found this hotel comfortable and relaxed. It's near theColorado Rockies Spring Training ball park, so quite convenient for baseball fans like us.
Our rate thru Travelocity was much lower than the hotel's website quoted, so do some comparison shopping.
We'll stay here again.
