We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Marieta ( 2 adults, a 14 and 10 year old). Really nicely surprised. The location was excellent, close to the beach etc.
The hotel was clean, the staff helpful and pleasant, and the food was really good. Plenty of choice, although the dinning room was quite busy at peak times.
The room was clean and there were plenty of fresh towells made available to us. However, the room was basic with no air conditioning, only ceiling fans.
We stayed half board I think you might have difficulty cooking anything more complex than toast in the kitchen area. We were able to make coffee and the fridge was really handy.
We didn't book transfers from the airport. We had a taxi to the hotel at a cost of 25 euro and caught a bus back ( bus station just down the road from the hotel) which cost 11 euros for us all !!
Them pool area was quiet, clean and pleasant. In the sun all day. There is also a roof top solarium which was a real suntrap. the resort has a really long promanade which was great to walk along to enjoy the great view. There are lots of steps down to the beach, which obviously might result in many people finding it difficult to access. The beach was superb. The sand dunes are easily accessed, be mindful that some areas are for nudists !!
If you go to the Marieta looking for 5* luxury you might be a little dissappointed, go with expectations of an excellent 3 * hotel and I think you will enjoy your stay as much as we all did. There were not many British people staying at the hotel.
catch a bus to Porto Morgan, a resort around the coast, it is really pretty. It is known locally as little Venice due to its canals.
We would definately return, hopefully some time soon......

first thing was after reading loads of reviews on the place i immediately requested a top floor room with a sea view through my travel agent.
On arriving we were given keys to a first floor room, after telling them we had requested a top floor room i was told there was nothing they could do as the hotel was full and they had tried to accomadate by giving a first floor on the sea side room. On going to the room i found we had no view whatsoever other than the next hotel. also there was no linen for the 3rd bed which was below the sofa.
I had to go back down to reception and complain about this.
The rooms were ok but very basic. the radio volume control didnt work properly, just loud or nothing. other than that the room itself was clean had plenty of wardrobe space and a good size safe.
i found plenty of choice for breakfast and to a good standard when we did have it at the hotel.
on some days i found it very noisy in the mornings when the cleaners were out doing there thing, you hear loud talking from the balconies not necesary from the cleaners but other staff also. The banging of doors and screeching of chairs on above floors.
Overall apart from being annoyed at not getting a top floor room, i found the hotel to be ok . The reception staff were helpful, the cleaners always smiled.
I would suggest making sure you get a top floor room with a sea view as this would make your stay there so much better. And also a short walk away on the sea front try
"Restaurante Guarapo II" we loved it there the food is fantastic and so is the service, we found ouselves going back there every evening to eat and drink.
I do hope you find this helpful.

Ok hotel but would look elsewhere

My boyfriend & I stayed here for 3 weeks recently & had a good holiday but were not overly impressed by the hotel. It is meant to be 3* but in my opinion it is not worthy of this. We booked a self-catering apartment & I expected to have enough equipment to be able to cook dinners etc but all we had was 2 little hobs. You have to PAY for a microwave & toaster & anything else you want. We had enough cutlery etc but no bowls?! You also have to pay for a TV (30euros a wk) & I found all of this a bit of a cheek as I did not realise nothing was included in the price. The staff are mainly all friendly but the cleaners are not. You do not have a 'do not disturb' sign to put on your door for the morning. So every morning the cleaner came at different times & would let herself in, therefore you have to be up to answer the door to tell her to come back later! Which I didnt wanna do each morning because I wanted to sleep! You only get your room cleaned 5 times a week & when it was it was not to a high standard. Also everyones door slams shut as you cant close it quietly. We didnt really like the location, its a 20 min walk to main area, there is lots of bars nearby but they are all Irish bars.
The only advantage was the pool area was very nice with lots of sunloungers & it was in the sun all day. We had a good time but if I returned I would look elsewhere next time.
