The hotel staffw ere lovely and welcoming.
However, the hotel itself was not very clean, very run down in general, and in need of refurbishment.
BUT great great location! To be reommneded for budget travellers, if you're not too fussy! the price was great too.

I attended a conference in Boston for a week in Oct 07 and booked this hotel on the internet after searching all hotels online in the vicinity of the conference centre to no avail -unless I could have afforded $650 per night which was all that was left! (onference was at the Sheraton hotel, and all their rooms were booked out). The Milner’s description and photos made it SOUND OK - and it was convenient enough...BUT.....in reality it is a FILTHY HOVEL. I feel I should report to Health department. IT IS A DISGUSTING PLACE and NOBODY there seems to care about it – except the handyman !
For 'quaint' read 'falling apart'. Service is apathetic at the best of times although there was one young guy who was helpful. My room described as "double room with desk and private bathroom" was small, shabby, run down and dirty. The curtains were crappy and didn't meet in the middle so I was potentially overlooked (in bed) from across the road when the light was on. The shower tray was cracked and held together by tape; there was no door between the toilet and bedroom, and the washbasin was in a separate corner of the room. There was a huge stained area of ceiling tiles in the washbasin corner from an old water leak. No wardrobe but a hanging space with rail and 3 plastic hangers in the room. Nowhere to store luggage. The only good point was free internet access.
The handyman told me that the hotel is half refurbished (5th floor is apparently more modern, avoid 3rd for sure!!) and the whole place NEEDS repair and refurbishment but management is not listening to what needs doing.
Next morning I requested a change of room, and was put in the "suite" on level 6 (lift stops at level 5) so a walk up with luggage to the ATTIC. This was bigger with a small desk - window blinds have not been cleaned this century I reckon and the room reeked of stale tobacco smoke. The carpet was dirty too, not sure when it would have last been vacuumed, and the toilet needs attention -water dripped into the bowl continuously between flushes. Anyway I stuck it out – it’s a noisy place because the lift shaft is next to it so I got vibrations through the pillow at times..... (apparently this is the manager's suite when he is there so now I know his standards I can understand why this place is so run down....)
Went to 'breakfast' once – a tiny little dirty area off the main foyer - floor filthy and sticky, nobody to assist, tables dirty, make your own waffles or find cereal, few yogurts and unappetising hard boiled eggs sitting in a bowl on ice.... make your own tea or coffee, use plastic cutlery (obviously recycled and stacked in containers unwrapped), muffins, doughnuts and bread in their plastic wrappers to help yourself to..... felt sick at the sight of it so didn't go back. TV was playing all the time, some inane rubbishy show.
Thank goodness I was able to transfer out of this dreadful filthy place for my last night and stay at the Sheraton in deluxe comfort for not much more than the Milner charged.
Milner should be knocked down; it is overpriced, filthy and unpleasant. If you want cheap accommodation try camping or a Youth hostel, definitely don't come here; if you want value for money then this place is a RIP-OFF

This place is absolutely awful. The entrance and elevator were dirty to say the least, and the whole place looks completely worn. I had a 5 sqm room with a narrow bed and a dying mattress. Though on the 5th floor the noise from the street was invasive, and there was almost no heating. On the morning I had to wait 5 minutes tap open to get the first drop of hot water.
Avoid this hotel, this is definitely not a place to stay.

I chose to stay at the Milner after reading a few reviews, it looked a reasonable kind of place to me. The rooms are clean but very small, if you want a closed in kind of feeling then this is the place for you. Not me, I would not choose to stay at the Milner again. The expression "you could not swing a cat" should come to your mind.
The interior of the hotel could do with a bit of a tidy up. Location wise it's ok. Easy for walking in the city and public transport.
