Savoy Hotel is definitely aimed more at an elderly clientele than a younger crowd, as can be seen in the large amount of senior boarders. The rooms were very clean, a good shower, a television with English channels and a mini fridge. The food was good, but one would have expected fresh fruit instead of canned. Breakfasts were self-service and one could get a fry, cereal, fruit, coffee or pretty much anything you would want. There was a lovely lunch at 4pm with fruit, coffee and pastries which was a welcome break from the very, very hot sun! Dinners were chosen in the morning and you tick a box for each course, with 3 options in each. Pork, ham, fish and (naturally!) pasta were extremely common in these lists and dinners were of good quality. I advise people to bring two formal outfits as there are two galas a week and it is important to look the part. There was entertainment from Roberto who played the keyboard at dinner and well into the night which was really lovely and it was really nice to see some of the professional dancers staying at the hotel (although you're more likely to see old people shuffling about!) The staff were brilliant, very funny and charming- however, if you have a young daughter I would STRONGLY advise watching her LIKE A HAWK- there are all too many male waiters only too willing to whisk her off into a nearby side street and take advantage of your little darlings so beware!! You are able to rent bikes from the hotel and they are usually pretty easy to obtain as most people in the hotel aren't exactly in their bike riding hay-day! The hotel is situated within good walking distance of Riva (20mins) where you can get a boat tour to anywhere in the lake for a very cheap price. Personally I found that Malcesine was very over-rated and that the best places to go were Salo' and Limone. I wouldn't advise going on the bus tours because you are very confined timewise on how long you can stay in each town and really, there's nothing you can see in a bus that can't be seen on a lake tour which is a lot less hot and uncomfortable and more scenic. The pool is pleasant and there are fantasticly comforatable loungers with canopies, with plenty to go around so you shouldn't have to get up early to throw down towels for that day! Be prepared to be one of the few English speakers among a LOT of Germans- especially if you go down by the lake (2 minute walk from the hotel) which is like a mini-
Germany! There is a fantastic ice cream parlour called Floras nearby which is a great hang out spot, especially for the younger crowd. There are also lots of scenic cycling tracks on fairly flat landscape, although it can be a bit of a challenge trying not to bang into oncoming pedestrians and little kids who like nothing more than to hop in the way of speeding bikes last minute- so be very careful! All in all, a very lovely hotel although I think a week is long enough to spend here and longer may be a bit tiring!

Wonderful Hotel

We have greatly enjoyed our second visit to the Savoy Palace in 8 months and continue to heartily recommend it.
The food is of the highest order created by a Chef who excels in the presentation and the Hotel's staff are welcoming and eager to please with efficient service.
The location in Gardone Riviera is ideal being central for visiting the towns on Lake Garda by the regular public boats.
The Hotel is not overly formal and it does provide an excellent relaxing atmosphere.
One point to consider - if your budget allows opt for a private limo transfer from Verona Airport to Gardone Riviera because this will take a little over a hour as opposed to the Coach transfer witch will take approx 2+ hours.

The Savoy Palace represents good value for money particuarly when considering the excellent food it serves on a half-board basis.
Our only criticism would be aimed at the unprofessional Dining Room staff but apart from this the Hotel provides for a relaxing holiday in the quiet resort of Gardone Riviera.
All members of the Hotel's staff are efficient, welcoming and helpful with any enquiry.
Do not consider any Room other than a direct or partial Lake View because the others overlook the main road and can be noisey.
The Hotel is situated a short walk from the Steamer Ferry stage and it is suggested that you purchase tickets from the Molinari Travel Agency situated by the Ferry Stage because they offer a discount provided you show a promotional card which can be obtained from the Hotel without any problem.
All in all we greatly enjoyed our 7 nights at the Savoy Palace and would return without any hesitation.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit hesitant when we arrived at the hotel. We had booked through Expedia, which does not allow for rooms with views/balconies, but because it was our honeymoon, the hotel was nice enough to place us in a room with a pool/lake view albeit no balcony (number 206). In addition, they were nice enough to provide us with Champagne and Strawberries on arrival!
The hotel overall is fantastic. Breakfast was standard, with mostly tinned fruit and various pastries.
The pool is great and always the place to relax after a long day of visiting the othe towns around the lake. Just make sure you place your towel on one of the sun beds early, as they can get taken up quite quickly.
We were concerned about the variety of restaurants near the hotel, but there are some wonderful restaurants along the promenade, that you will never get bored. The pizza and pastas are fanatastic and a gelato to top it off.
Overall, the Savoy Hotel was great and I would definately recommend it for visits to Lake Garda.

Stayed for 3 nights with wife & teenage sons as part of a travelling holiday.
Can't figure the review below - this was the best hotel we stayed in.
Front desk staff were ok, any attempt at Italian on arrival helps.
Rooms were a good size, clean and well appointed. Our lake-view rooms had no balcony/french window but the majority of them did.
The one criticism was of the bath/shower arrangement, it was designed so that when you used the shower attachement, water run-off spilt on to the floor. My wife flooded the bathroom and the carpet immediately outside first time she used it, the concierge & cleaning staff dealt with it efficiently - not the first time?
We stayed B&B, and thought the breakfasts were terrific - fresh fruit salads, bacon & egg, taken poolside when the weather was decent.
Gardone was lovely, smaller and 'more refined' than the other resorts we saw. The receptionist left us with the impression there wasn't much there, but there was enough - basic shops down a narrow street, bars & restaurants on a smart lake-side promenade with a couple of squares linking the two; one night a concert band played, very good, just sitting on the steps listening and having an ice-cream. We ate 2 nights at the promenade restaurant of the 'hotel du Lac', food was excellent & the staff friendly and tolerant of our bad Italian. Wouldn't recommend the restaurant facing it across the square, chaotic service the night we ate, head waiter (looks like Ben Elton) seemed to be heading for a Basil Fawlty-style crack-up at any moment, much glaring at his waitresses, not a happy bunny.
Bar Monza was good for drinks and several others looked promising.
Hotel Pool & sun lounger area was small but pleasant; adjacent beach club proved to be good value for money compared with others we came across, but wear something on your feet if you swim - 'beach' is very stony.
All in all, hotel and resort highly recommended, but half a mark off for that shower! If you stay, though, make sure you book a room with a lake view, it'll cost more but it is worth it, Lake Garda is beautiful.
