Fun times!!!!

We were 4 girls (in our upper 20s) that went down there for a week and we had a fabulous time!! True, the resort has many stairs, but it really wasn't a big deal for us.
Our room flooded the first night (we were on the ground floor with an amazing view) when a huge hurricane like thunderstorm hit and we had the pool on our level with a garden n pool on the second level and our room was flooded within mins from both angles. Needless to say it was DISGUSTING! We had to wait until the storm would end before anyone could help us but we passed the next couple of hours rescuing our shoes from the floor and playing cards on our beds =0) (we know how to have a good time in the worst of situations).
After we were moved to a higher level room -- turned out to be nicer! We had no issues. Housekeeping was friendly, the staff at the resort were super friendly. We dined at all the restaurants -- our fave was the Thai place!
loved the swim up bars... we took the dancing lessons offered on the beach, had a spa day, even went to the gym three times in the morning! lol
we took 1 excursion to do the waterfall climbing - RECOMMEND IT FOR EVERYONE!!!! amazing amazing time! super thrilling (i cant swim so i had a scare for a bit but btwn hanging on to the HOT guides and getting washed up with stones in the waterfall -- i managed to have a great time)
of course we were sore the next day, had a few cuts but trust me, the fun is amazing! u climb up the waterfall (they literally throw u above the water bc there are no stairs to climb) and then to get back down, u jump the falls!! =0) amazing time!!!!!
we also took a private island tour which required sitting on a speedboat for 45 mins -- it was a relaxing adventure, but the island is literaly 50 years. haha
all in all, i def recommend this resort =0)
Beware of Being ONE of MANY who becomes sick.....

After much research on where to go for a romantic getaway, my significant other and I found this unforgettable deal at sun village resort & spa. We could not refuse the offer.
We visited Sun Village for 8days/7nights, from June 15th to June 22nd, which was off season. The resort was nice and quiet. However, towards the end of stay, it became congested with people. Very loud and obnoxious folks.
All the staff were welcoming, very helpful, greeting us all the time, just very friendly.
Room-
Upon arrival, the concierge was very helpful and had our room ready. Our first room was small. Did not have the LCD television that was advertised. Did not seem like it was the superior room as we were told we would receive. Being in the room for about an hour, the ceiling from the restroom started to cave in & water started to pour into the shower. We immediately called the operator & someone came to see the problem within 30mins. We had to change rooms because that was not fixable. Our next room, was slightly bigger but had less closet space. And still no LCD television. The AC took awhile to cool the room. The fan was the only thing that seemed to work fine.
The buffet was the same food food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The guest handbook mentioned the food changes each day to accommodate every guest. This is false!!! The pizza was very hard and stale. I stopped eating there when I saw a roach roaming around the trays.
Sonora Caf?- It is a Mexican style restaurant. The staff there is very friendly. The food there was better than the buffet style restaurant. Its very filling.
Citrus- Was the best out of the three restaurants.
BBQ by the beach- Honestly isn't that great. All the food is out in the open which allows all the bugs to land on. The burgers were not cooked well, the bread and the French fries were stale.
Unfortunately Lemon grass was closed during our stay there.
Speaking of the food has left me with a sour taste in my mouth.
Towards the end of the stay, we both become very ill. Neither of us ate off the resort grounds. What's strange is how we both became very ill within the same hour. I started suffering from abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, & nausea. Within an hour of my symptoms my boyfriend become ill with the symptoms. That night, we both were not able to sleep. The next morning we decided to visit the medical doctor thinking they will help us.
It was worse!!! Their so-called medical center is an office that isn't very clean. My boyfriend and I were given an IV unit and several medications;introduced via the IV. While we were there we both fainted. My boyfriend had his IV change due to him fainting which was their mistake but either way they charged him that on the bill. We were in the medical "office" center for more than three hours. We could not stay there because the office was so small so we were escorted back to our room. We had to hang our IVs onto the picture frames hanging on the wall that was above the bed. We were up all night, taking the meds they supplied us while trying to keep the IVs on the picture frames. At the medical center, they had mentioned to us that they were going to come in the morning to remove the IVs. The next morning, we had go to the "office" because they were not going to come over. Once the Ivs were removed, they began to charge us. The bill came out to be $1600 USD for what they called medical services and the medications they supplied to us. The so-called medications were pretty much what we call samples. The meds alone were like $600. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!
BUT we were not the only ones getting sick. While we were at the medical center several other people were there for having the same symptoms.
At the time of booking a stay at this resort, we both thought we had a great deal but all in all we were charged double for our stay and for the medical attention we received.
Being back in the US, my boyfriend has contacted the management to speak upon this matter. All they have been saying is it was traveler's diarrhea we experienced. He also stated the medical center and sun village resort have no affiliations so the medical center charges their own fees. Being on their resort, we should have been treated as Sun Village guests and given this outrageous bill because we did not eat off the premises nor did we drink any type of water.
Honestly, if this was in US, I would have my lawyer look into this. Ive spoken to many people out here but its harder to take any actions due to the resort being in international grounds.
Please beware and rethink before booking your stay at this resort!!!!
This was suppose to be our paradise getaway and it ended up being hell...

We went to Sun Village last year. I am not surprised at all by the bad reviews it has gotten. First and foremost, the food was absolutely horrible. I think I actually lost weight on this vacation. Day after day of boring, greasy, monotonous food. We went once to the mexican place only to look at the pathetic offerings and headed back to the Malibu, which is horrible itself. The only half decent dining experience was the italian place and that was marginal. We couldn't wait to get back to Miami Airport for a decent meal-I can't believe I just said that. The other problem was the incessant sales people at every turn. My question is why would I buy a place there with the food being so horrible? The only redeeming qualities about Sun Village are the good people who work there and the grounds. Beyond that it was the worse holiday we had. Never again!

Both my girlfriend and I visited Sun Village for 8days/7nights (June 15th to June 22nd). We were obviously there on an "off season" week; the resort grounds were very quiet. At first we questioned it, but in the end we welcomed the seclusion. Towards the end of our trip more and more people started arriving, that's when everything got "loud" and congested.
Upon our arrival we were picked up by a private Ford Excursion. This was a very nice touch and was a sign of a promising vacation.
Room-
We stayed in a Superior Room. Our 1st room was nice, but there was a huge leak in our bathroom. Above the bathtub there was a leak from the room above. I believe it was from the "neighbors" shower. We were immediately moved to another room. The 2nd room was nice, but it lacked furniture. There was only one small closet to keep our clothes in. The AC in the 2nd room was inadequate. Good thing there was a fan in the room, otherwise the room would have been to hot to sleep in. As i read in another review, the floors are dirty. It's probobly best to walk around in flip-fops. They obviously dont mop the floors. Another thing i was disapointed by was the TV. I know i wasn't on vacation to watch TV, but i was expecting an LCD as advertised. NEITHER of the rooms had an LCD, they were both equipped with TV's from the mid 90's (I work in the media industry, i guess that's why it bothered me).
Resort Grounds-
The resort grounds were very nice. Well kept and maintained. Very nice pools and beach area. Nice "Theater Lounge".
Food-
Here is where things get sour for us. Lemon Grass was closed the duration of our trip. The Mexican place by the beach was mediocre. The buffet was the same food everyday, with slight variance day to day. Citrus, the Italian place was the most enjoyable. The BBQ "shack" by the beach was ok.
The food is what led both my girlfriend and i to get very ill. Thank goodness we got sick towards the end of our trip. Both my girlfriend and I never ate off the resort grounds, so we know for a fact is was their food. We also never drank water from the facet; strictly bottled water. We both got sick the same night; we showed symptoms within the same hour. That night, we both could not sleep, NOT AT ALL!!! We visited the "Medical Center" the following morning. The place was NOT sanitary; cotton ball with my blood was left on the table in the "waiting area" from the time the IV unity was applied till after we left, this was more than 3 hours. Both my girlfriend and I were given an IV unit and several medications (introduced via the IV). Since the "Medical Center" (office) was so small, we were escorted back to our room and had our IV units slung by rubber gloves which were attached to the paintings on the wall above our bed. This is where and how we stayed for close to 24 hours (Now was the time i really wished we had an LCD television...sorry i had to throw that in). The following morning we headed back to the Medical Center. Here is where we were given many pills to take. Honestly, it seemed like we were given pills from "trial packs" doctor offices usually get. We were charged a PREMIUM for this visit. All and all, we were charged $1600 for their "medical attention". On top of that, we were not the only people sick and getting money sucked from our wallets. I met a family (Father, Mother, and 2 daughters), and 2 couples; they all experienced the same symptoms both my girlfriend an I did.
All and all, the resort seems like a nice place, but what good is the beautiful grounds if you are too sick to enjoy it? I am VERY DISAPPOINTED that the "medical service" cost us nearly triple the price for staying at the their resort.
