The Banff Ptarmigan Inn is an excellent accommodation, especially value for price. We were notified of a 'gas card' deal, where for each night you stay, you receive a $25 gas card. That made our stay more affordable, although, compared to many other properties in the same category, the Ptarmigan Inn is already good value for price.
The room was a bit rustic (wood ceiling), but very spacious, although the bathroom was a bit small. Staff were friendly, polite, and accommodating. There is underground parking (if you get there early enough).
The rooms do not have mini-fridges, which would have been a plus.
Overall, this property is excellent value, very clean, and a great place to settle in for the night on holiday.

We booked this hotel a while ago and must admit that after reading some of the earlier reviews we began to wish we hadnt.
The main problem seemed to be hot and stuffy rooms with no outside windows, with this in mind as the weather on our arrival was very hot we asked for a room with a balcony , this was organised for us at a surcharge of $60 for 4 nights, the room was very good with a balcony overlooking the mountains at the back of the hotel.
Overall our experiance was a good one.

I got on priceline for decent price about $130 total, but loud and dirty dated room. I was very uncomfortable - everything in room old and stuffy. Next time, I would splurge for the Fairmont in Banff or Lake Louise.

I found a good deal thru travelocity for this hotel. It was nice and clean, but it was a bit noisy since my room was facing the lobby. Nicely located. It takes only a few minutes to get to the shopping district. Only problem I had during my stay was the Elevator. I was stuck in the elevator more than 5 minutes, and their response was not very professional.

The hotel itself is "OK" - central and conveneint to Banff Avenue. The rooms are dated and really need renovated - the bath was chipped in several places, the vent cover missing in the bathroom, carpet was coming up in the bedroom by the TV (and we were staying in a Superior room!!!).
However, the attitude of the staff (front desk in particular) is woeful. Despite being told by several guests that one of the lift buttons was broken, nothing was done to fix it during the 3 days we were staying.
Cleaning staff pushed past customers to get into the one working lift.
No information on hotel amenities was forthcoming.
Bar staff just chatted to their friends on the two occasions we used the hotel bar.
Not my idea of customer service especially for the prices they are charging!
The best thing I can say is that the hotel offers free parking.....
