From the outside this looks like an oasis in a desert....modern, clean, gleaming gold trim. And the rooms are certainly clean and new and big. But when you're in a city that regularly hits 30+ Centigrade you'd like to have an air conditioner that puts out more air than I can do by whistling (it did not!), and actually cools the room (it did not...my room never got below 25 C!). And the beds...I slept on a rock while hiking in Al Archa that was more comfortable than the beds in this hotel.

Golden Dragon is one block off a main thoroughfare which has plenty of restaurants and small casinos. The room was clean and the staff was helpful and polite. Internet was very slow but due to a flaw in the accounting system at the time it was practically free. Breakfasts left alot to be desired... much of it seemed to be leftovers from the dinners the night before. I had trouble getting hot water in the shower and had to call the engineer. However once that was fixed I found the hotel perfectly fine and would consider staying there again. There is a large casino in the hotel but I didn't go in.

The hotel was chosen and arranged by friends in Bishkek, and it was indeed an excellent choice: the best hotel I have stayed in in Kyrgyzstan. The personnel is friendly and professional; the decoration luminous and attractive -- the base colour is gold and cream, evidently for the 'golden' dragon; everything is new and clean, and we were told that the hotel is locally owned. Especially handy, considering the time of night that most flights come into and leave Manas airport, is a free pickup (and take-back for departure) service. Breakfast was an ample buffet with both Russian and Western European choices.
